Hi. I could use some advice please. Took my first HGV ferry journey this morning from Holyhead to Dublin. Parked not far from port last night so only had a 15 minute drive. Was able to take a 45 minute break south of Dublin within my 6 hour WTD limit. When I’ve dropped my delivery in the morning I’m heading back to Dublin so I’ll take a 45 minute break before my 6 hours are up. I’ll then get the ferry but there’s a chance a chance I’ll be on the ferry when the next 6 hours WTD limit hits. What do I need to do regarding the tachograph as I can’t access it whilst on the ferry to put it on a break?

If you are not working when on the ferry then you can set the tacho to break
Personally I would remove the card and do an entry to cover the time it was out. I would do the same if I was parking in a yard and going to be away for an unknown time. In that case it saves a trip back to put it on break.

Just switch the Tacho to Ferry mode when you get on and set it to break. Or…if you don’t need the ferry mode (depending on how you want to take your daily rest), just switch it to break.
I’d taken a 45 minute break on the way back to Dublin port. Wasn’t sure if I was getting paid for subsequent breaks by the agency. Turns out that I was going to be paid so I just stuck it on a break when I boarded the ferry. Thank you all for the advice.
