I believe this can be done by a tachograph calibration centre only … pretty sure that is the case.

default settings can only be altered by calibration centre

As already said the default setting can only be changed at a tachograph centre, as much as a pain in the ■■■ as it is unless you can get the default setting changed you should be changing the tachograph mode to other work every time you switch off the ignition.

It’s the fault of the French. It was too complicated for them to switch the mode to break/rest so they got the default changed. Glad we’re not more like them. :stuck_out_tongue:

Mendip Truck and Bus or whatever they’re called at the moment quoted me 25 quid to change this on one of ours.

The (French? I’d like to think so) stupidity here is not the behaviour of the tacho, it’s that the driver can’t change this setting themselves. It’s quite obvious that the different defaults suit different types of work.

The strange thing is that ISTR the handbook for the tacho assumes that the default behaviour is sensible (‘stay the same’?), but actually it seems that nowadays they’re mostly set to ‘switch to break’ - was this the French change?

Yes. I believe the next change they are pushing for is all auto gearboxes to default to reverse to enable them to surrender more quickly.

When I got my new lorry and found it goes to rest with engine off I was made up!

Changed to sister unit this afternoon and it’s default was other work, pity you can’t change yourself, Thanks for help tho
