Tacho printouts

Hi
Ive been driving class 1’s now for 2 years for an agency. I have just done a CPC training day in which it was highlighted that doing a printout makes that printout a legal document, I understand that a printout that has been made to make a note on the back to explain the reason for an infringement must be kept then handed in to transport office, but didn’t realise that you had to keep any printout even with no manual entry on the back. Either it was not mentioned on previous CPC courses or I was just sleep walking through the course.

I have been doing regular printouts just to look at some details (e.g. what time I reset my last 45 min break), then throwing away the printouts.

Obviously I have now stopped doing random printouts, my question is, what should I do now?

  1. Report the fact of what ive been doing to transport manager (I’m an agency driver)?

  2. What could be the repercussions for this?

I would appreciate any advise

You’ve been misinformed. The only printouts that have any legal standing are those that are required by the Regulations (eg to record your reasons when it was necessary to go over your time, to amend an incorrect entry or if your card is lost or damaged).

Printouts you produce for your own records, to check drive/break times or simply because you need a piece of paper to write a shopping list on have no legal significance and can be kept or discarded as you wish.

Thank you Roymondo, thats a big relief i was panicking. Been sweating for a few days now about this as this was the first time i had heard this (by a CPC instructor). I was wondering why I had never heard this before.

Thanks again
