Tacho data - what do you do with....?

The data once you have done your 28 day (or more frequent) downloads?

I understand the analysis of the data but not what happens to it? Do you just keep safe for a period of time or should it be sent to someone?

If this is a daft question I apologise but my brain has gone completely blank today

Not my subject really, but… I think you have to retain the info for 12 months, or two years if you’re using it for WTD.

I think it’s something like that, but somebody will be along with a good answer, then I’ll try to remember what the real answer is.

It must be kept for 2 years if used for working time calculations. Assuming that you are the operator/TM then you should use the data to ensure that the operation is compliant. If infringements are found it needs to be brought to the drivers attention and shown that steps are taken to prevent future infringements.

Thank you both

I thought just keeping it safe was the answer but when he asked me my brain went…

■■■■ it, becoming a thick old woman. I thought that stage would take longer TBH

Hey, no offence intended but I hope you don’t have an actual operators licence, if so you have probably just gone way up the D**A list for “must go and have a check of the records”
Shredding the 12+ month old discs is one of lifes little pleasures  (we are not in the click delete league yet). 12 months for tachos and 15 months for maintenance was always one of the trick questions on the old cpc ?

Didn’t the filing cabinet catch fire mysteriously?

I didn’t say I had destroyed anything. I asked if you have to send the stuff away to anyone. It’s perfectly safe, thank you, and will remain so after the 15 months TBH

As soon as people write ‘no offence’ it normally becomes an excuse for them to be rude. This happens in real life as well as on forums. I have no idea why it’s necessary

I did not say you had destroyed anything either, I made what I thought was a light hearted post, related to your admission that you could not, at the time of posting, remember what an operator has to do regarding retention of tachograph data. I though I was being helpful in light heartedly pointing out that “someone” monitoring this forum might put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5 when it appeared, from the post, that an O licence holder did not know what they might consider a fairly fundamental rule.
It was the subsequent poster who, again jokingly I think  , suggested that people have in the past been unfortunate enough to have had records destroyed in fires.
I am actually a very polite and helpful person, have a look through my posts on here. i have no good news on the forgetting things front either I am afraid, it just gets worse with age in my personal experience

I apologise Manski. Someone else had taken a pop in another post and I am afraid I was a little tetchy

I came back in to delete and then the blasted phone rang and I forgot all about it. I hope you accept my apology

TBH when driving in the old days, I wasn’t opposed to feeding charts to the nearest shetland but those days are now gone, sadly. It would take the average Shetland a while to polish off a digi card or the machine

Apology accepted. No offence taken
