Never heard of Syms GAZ70, , fair do’s.
They were a big firm from calne, used to run about 200 lorries at one point, and had about 30 based at British gypsum in notts.
Think they finished about late 90s, sold the transport to Dodds, and Volvo are in there old depot at portmarsh ind est calne…

sad note, stan summers passed away in june, he was a good mate for many years. my dad and i worked for syms, i used to be the shunter with paddy at east leake, both my dad and paddy(david) have now sadly passed away, sorry for all the sad news but great to see the pics. kev stewart.
I remember Syms well… they used to tip out plasterboard at our yard in Peckham …I had a few nights out at East Leake when either loading for our London depot or when I was covering the Birmingham artic drivers holidays and there was normally a couple of Syms lads in the club having a pint Motors always looked good and the loads well sheeted

Really sad to here that Stan has passed away, he was a great friend of my dads, both drove the night trunk from calne to East Leake hauling plasterboard and farm machinery in the 70s’. The B series pictured above UMW 331T was collected by Stan who called in for a cuppa before taking it to Syms yard in 1979. I was hoping to meet up with him but unfortunately to late. Hope he is having a good chinwag with my dad. Rest in Peace Stan.

the three guys in the yard shot are i think Dave hazell Ivor chivers and it looks abit like John Wells in the middle.I had the pleasure of working for SYMS 333 squadron.Good bunch of boys. EXSYMS(bob daniels)
