Hello Gunnerheskey
Going through my scrapbook i came across this photo of a old B Series ERF.I think the photo was taken in 1977 at about this time they had 34 lorries 8 being the ERF B Series.I believe the firm was founded in 1955.Sorry about the picture quality.
Regards JACKO
Hello,Mike asked if Gregorys took over Syms,as far as I’m aware it was Dodds…the Dodds flags have replaced the Syms signwriting on the doors of these few.
Cheers Bubbs,
Bubbleman, thanks for the info. I had a head injury and stopped driving HGV for two years 2005-2007 which resulted in me forgetting alot and losing touch with who has gone and who has started. Are Kammac still about (only joking). I knew Syms had been taken over but guessed at Gregory’s.
R-Jacko, Rich don’t apoligise for the picture quality. You, bubbleman and aniacs make this site worth looking at and the magic 100 is coming fast. Just need you three to push us over the edge!
Mike

Hi R-JACKO, The Syms brothers like a lot of british firms ran a lot of british lorries first, until they tried the swedish… Great B - series picture looks the part too, as for quality, its the picture that counts. Superb mate…

RE: Bubbleman,
David Syms apparently sold up didn’t go bust, just had enough. Dodds wanted the site and had already muscled in on some of Syms work, so bought the site, but David Syms said on condition you take on the lorries and drivers so as the lads still had work…
Some More of Syms Gems…

syms colours maybe a subbie ? was at gaydon this year
Nice pic of that B-series Carl. I’m guessing that Roy Brake probably could’ve been an ex driver or could’ve well been an ex subbie. I’ll have to ask my mate " Chris Oldham " who had 16yrs on Syms.
A few more of Syms lads…
This one that came off a bit the worse somewhere in france…
Had a photobucket folder re-shuffle, and re-organise, so its shifted my pics off… sorry
. Here we go again
…
And some more…
These next few are from a friend of mine Jez who’s dad drove for Syms and he used to go with him…
Some more Syms classics, kindly supplied by Jez & Chris Oldham…

Suprised me too Mark R, when i got them. Apparantley Syms ran a few other marques along side the volvo’s the odd M.A.N, Iveco & Merc.
I’ve just re-arranged my photobucket album and its knocked some of my early pics off
, so i’ll either try and re-post the other pics. They were of the iveco and m.a.n…
hi lads ! some good photos there i speak to jez everyday telling me great stories of the old days at syms when his dad worked there , as per norm these days are long gone pages like this can only bring back many a memory to the old and not so young!!! syms of calne were known as the triple six squadron on the cb my dad seems to remember. anybody remember this ? keep up the good work Andrew !
