Most other european countries have driver shortages - and they never left the eu. Any brexiteers capable of explaining why?
There is very little to separate countries like France and the UK atm.
Covid has been a far bigger issue than brexit.
But Luke has a flag of europe in his room so he may disagree lol. euobserver.com/opinion/147954
I know this is off topic but I find it odd that British people proudly wear another states flag. You would never see French people waving and wearing german flags.
Ye, you can argue the EU is not a state but it basically is and is slowing turning into the United States of Europe for better or worse.
Also the majority of people who voted to leave the EU did not vote due to being mislead of lied to. It was based on first hand experiences.
Being in the EU brought many benefits if you was in the middle or upper class. But if you were lower class and were living on low income there were no benefits so no incentive to stay. Also quite a few negatives if you factor in low skilled migration from the EE which again benefited the wealthy at the expense of the poor.

This equates to an annual salary of more than £62,000 - assuming someone works an eight-hour day, five days a week.
Can someone show me where they are offering this please? You know for curiosity sake… I think this number is complete [zb]. Firstly, what supermarket on agency actually lets you do an 8 hour day? Secondly the £30+ an hour rate is usually the overtime rate after doing 8 hours.
I would very much like to do 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for £62k a year.
Edit I googled Aaron Levanthal. dailymail.co.uk/news/articl … risis.html
He is earning 40k a year.
Some good research this journalist did.
So the headline
Remoaning HGV driver brands Brexit ‘huge mistake’ despite it adding up to £29K to salary
Is complete crap.

I was thinking this exact point.
switchlogic:
No, he asked what I was earning when I crashed. I was doing 4 days a week and as few hours as possible as I was ill

So, completely manufactured headline then?
On the article, I believe there is total agreement that joining the EU stagnated wages. But that also saw the flattest inflation over a sustained period in history.
The contention seems to be whether leaving the EU caused increase wages. Imo it is the least vital factor, given that anybody legally employed whilst we were EU members, had the right to remain. Other vital factors in creating the shortage of workers is IR35, wage increases and more opportunities in other countries & Covid. There are others too, but these have the most impact.

The common denominator is the way in which like ours the French road transport industry has been sacrificed to the advantage of the East Euro one.
Drivers are voting with their feet accordingly. Why would anyone want to work in a degenerating industry work situation v a massively growing one.To the tune of Poland alone having a larger market/productivety share of European road transport than ours, France’s and Italy’s combined.
The difference being that most west europeans don’t want to move east for work and doubtful if east euro employers would employ french/english/italian speakers anyway even if they did.
Pro EU logic is all about what’s good for Eastern Europe not Western Europe it makes no sense for us or France or Italy or even Germany.
While Brexit has done absolutely nothing in even attempting to retreive our lost market share in that regard.By way of quota permits for international freight movements giving us at least 50% of all import/export movements, banning third country operations, and the total removal of all cabotage allowances.
That would at least bring back much of the type of work which most drivers aspire to and enter the industry to do.
Ultimately like is entitled to his opinion, we don’t need to agree with him but attacking him like this is disgusting. Yous are behaving lime a group of bullies.
Like to be fair the article didn’t paint you in a good lime in fact it appeared to be a hatchet job by them bringing up for no reason how you license was suspended.
Nearly there again:

Only to people who don’t agree with my views, and that was inevitable. It contained factually my views and exactly what I said. Any EU supporter is enemy number one to the average Express reader so the reaction is entirely expected. They’re just surprised that someone had balls to put his head above the parapet, as was the likes of RobK. What would be the point of expressing your opinions in an article to an audience that agree? That’s just self satisfied self congratulatory nonsense, ultimately pointless. When some of my detractors on here reveal who they are I might take them seriously but until them nah, what’s the point
I do love though how upset it made some on here though, to point where RobK said I must be ‘questioning my life choices’ and that this thread will be ‘legendary in years to come’ in a comical exaggeration. He also seems fairly naive about the online world these days, he never used to be. Saying my social media ‘empire’ is ‘crumbling’ People have built entire successful careers on being hated, it’s a common way to become well known.
Quaint too that him and Harry thought being ‘spanked’ on Trucknet, supposedly, was an awful blow! In the past week I’ve had my thoughts and questions put directly to the Prime Minister during PMQs and had a long opinion piece printed in a National paper, while they’ve scrabbled around anonymously on a truckers forum. So I suppose I can understand why they seem to think I’m vastly more important than the outspoken nobody that I am. As I’ve said repeatedly, we’re all just morons yelling into the void. Only the self satisfied think what they say is important.

Come on then Mr Vernon, for those of us that can’t be arsed to go through all of your posts.
Why have DVLA revoked your LGV licence?
Although I disagree with Luke’s stance on the eu, if the issue with DVLA is based around some medical matter then I would respectfully suggest that it’s none of your business.

Aren’t you contractually obliged to call me an attention seeker?

He’s made it public by broadcasting it via the national press so I would respectfully suggest that it is my business!

You are, perhaps the biggest one I’ve come across, answer the question!

Thanks for that.
Fat fingers, no reading glasses handy, small phone and a disinclination to delve any more deeply.

That’s fine, I’ll just take an educated guess that it’s to do with you being a sandwich short of a picnic.
I’ll leave it at that as you’re just an insignificant attention seeking ex truck driver.
As for my evening, thank you I will, I’d wish you the same but truthfully I really don’t care.
You don’t care so much you post several times about it. You need to work harder on that not caring act old fruit, it’s not very convincing so far. Bon nuit
