Switching Agency's

Hi can anyone shed any light on switching agencies and working for the same client, my current agency seems to be losing quite a bit of work and when I probed and asked about leaving I never really got an answer… anyone know what the procedure is or length of time is before I can start with a new agency and work for the same client as I did with the old agency …

or the rule of thumb

Thanks

Rigsby’s right, mate. I’m transferring this thread to the UK Professional Drivers Forum  . R

It’s an agency. Sign up with the other agency, and get the date for your first shift. Then tell the current agency you’re not available from that date.

They have no qualms to call you an hour before a shift, to cancel it, or keep you hanging for days, and then being all sulky if you’re not available at a moment’s notice. ■■■■ them.

Unless the client…

Has some kind of time limtation then, you’re free to work for who ever you want when ever you want.

I’ve been down this road before - Sort of.

I worked for Agency A for 6 months or so working at Hermes trunking. Agency A lost the contract and Agency B was taking over. Hermes tried to get us to sign up to Agency B so there was a smooth transition and carry on the next day.

Trouble is, Agency B “forgot” to tell us the pay rates were £3 an hour less than what Agency A paid us.

No one switched to Agency B and so Agency A were able to offer drivers but at a higher negotiated rate, giving us a £1 raise per hour on our original Agency A rate.

If we had signed up to Agency B and decided we wanted to move back to Agency A, we wouldn’t be able to work for Hermes for 6 months under some Agency Worker Regs.

I did this when I got sick of an agency I was working for at TNT on their Ideal Standard contract constantly getting my pay wrong. Finished work on Wednesday for Agency X, walked into Agency Y on Thursday and signed up with them on the Thursday, they rang the company I’d been at and Thursday teatime I was out on a night trunk with the same client for Agency Y There is no restriction on the length of time you have to have before starting with a new agency. I think you’re wondering if the 12/13 week thing for taking on an agency worker and giving them a permanent job applies and it doesn’t, they’re not taking you on.

They were lying, no such restriction exists.

I was going to mention the “temp to perm” contract, but that is a differnt contract between the client, the worker, and the agency. Normal agency work is a zero hour, no strings affair. Any crap they may te you is just that.
