Supervising a driver on L plates

I was asked to supervise a friend, who has his provisional license and needs someone who has his license for over three years to help him to learn.

He is insured to drive a car we will use and I am insured to drive my car and every other cars with a permission of his owner, so in case that he’ll panick, I can take over and drive him home. Do I need any other insurance, or I am ok like that?

No more insurance needed as your policy will cover you, and while he’s driving his insurance is in use.

Thanks.

Double check the learners policy - many have got it wrong

Your policy will let you drive another vehicle if you have fully comp but you drive that vehicle on third party only so I would get a written private agreement with the vehicle owner regarding any damage caused to it or you will be held fully liable.

Yes, I am aware of that. I hope to do not need to drive their car.

I was rather concerning if I have to have some special insurance for “supervising”, but as when he’s driving, he’s insurance is in use, that’s all I needed to know.

Thank you anyway.

Agreeing to accompany a learner driver is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
You are responsible for their actions and your licence is at risk if you allow motoring offences to be committed.
It is illegal to charge for driving lessons in a car unless you are an DSA-ADI or monies worth.
The subjects you need to brief or discuss with you learner are as follows, always start with a recap of your last lesson,
Discuss todays lesson plan your aims and objectives to be reached if possible.
Vehicle checks, ancillary controls , how to use the controls smoothly, moving away safely, stopping S.L.C. giving signals if necessary, road postioning for normal driving, lane discipline at multi-lane roundabouts and junctions, proper observations, turning left and right major to minor roads, emerging safely at junctions,at crossroads teach them nearside and offside turning, meeting oncoming traffic and clearance of parked cars, seperation distance for wet or dry conditions, reaction to risk, crossing the path of oncoming traffic, overtaking suitable speeds, the 6 differant pedestrian crossing, dual carriageways making progress driving at 60 to 70 mph if safe to do so,changing lanes remembering to check the blindspot. (m/pslmsm),
emergency stop, 5 reversing manoeruves, that should keep you busy for the 1st 15 hours.
Now you tell me you are happy to do this for nothing in the way of reward.
£22 and hour isn’t alot to ask for a professional driving instructor who will supply a new car,tax and insured correctly, with fuel and instruction.
