Sunday night or early Monday morning going to work

Well for years I’ve always been in the going in to work Sunday night camp and trying to get that extra hours sleep in which never happens as you either get talking to coworkers or just can’t get to sleep early .
Over the last month either I’ve got a 6am ish start or just to much on at home I’ve been going in Monday mornings even at 2:30 am
I’ve found it easier as no Sunday evening drivers getting in my way and more time at home to do stuff
What camp are you in ?

There will be those who mock us drivers who go in the night before a weeks tramping but i have been doing it for years…it’s just for convenience and a quiet night in the truck and (as you say) that extra hour in bed
I live an hour from our yard and if i get a 6am start i’m buggered if i’m getting up at 4am to get to the yard, sort my kit and food out in the cab, hook up to a trailer, do my checks, and then have the office expect me to do a 15 hour shift on top.
This way i leave home at 8pm, and in bed for 9.30-10pm for a 6am start (i like my 8 hours sleep)
Done it for so long me and the missus are used to it

Each to their own , I’m only 30 mins away but our yard is noisy on Sundays as some leave 1/2am

Where I worked if was a long run on a Monday we had the choice go early or Sunday .
I used to go Sunday afternoon set off about 6 pm drive about 4 hours then park up for the night.
Found it better than starting at 3. 4 am .
Plus meant then wasn’t rushing around on the Monday morning as was more less where had to be .
As say each to there own. But think lot of companies these days dictate you start at 3 am or what ever.
Where I worked the fella was laid back didn’t care when we went

Sorry wrong thread

I would be paid the Sunday rate and a night out money for Sunday night to do double runs, as an example do a delivery to Northampton or Stoke on Trent, run back to the yard empty, drop the empty then hitch up to a loaded trailer to go back up the road again until I was close to my driving hours or working time to then park up ready for a delivery Monday morning at 07.00 am.

Never done it & never will ,

Well deffo won’t be going in next Sunday as the local Sikh temple has a festival on from 12 till 5 pm and the area will be busy

I don’t tramp but if I did I wouldn’t do that unless being paid. I’m assuming your doing that unpaid. The closest I get to that is checking the route to a new shop the previous evening in my own time.

I go in Sunday night or the night before only because I can’t sleep if IAM indoors and have to get up at silly o clock .But I can sleep in the lorry even getting up at silly o clock.

Yep and here it is…
When I first started with my lot I stipulated from day 1 that I do not do stupid o clock starts.
6 o’clock …or 5 at the very earliest and occasionally.

These firms claim they are all for Health and Safety, I know my own limitations, me taking a truck out at 3am on a Monday morning after leaving home after the weekend, would neither be healthy or safe.
But…

There is no way in hell I would give my Sunday evenings up unpaid  to sleep in my motor in the yard.

On the occasions I was asked to get to a far away place at an early stipilulated time, I told them I would compromise by leaving Sunday, or get another driver to do it…they soon got the message.

I love these office types who start at 9am after getting up at 8am, telling a fellow employee to get away by 3am…aye right.
I have seen clowns at our place at say 5pm on a Sunday picking up their trailer,.and fuelling up…off card, then getting in their bunk for the noght to leave at some ungodly hour…instead of leavin on a Sundsy premium rate, with a night out paid.
2 words… ‘■■■■’ and ‘that’.

Only reason I was there was I called in to get something out of truck before taking my Mrs out for Sunday tea…(whilst looking at those clowns with contempt and making sure they realised it :joy:)
Called..‘Having a life’

It’s like anything else in this industry though,.if a driver is daft enough to agree to it, they will keep giving you it.

Talking of silly oclock, I start at 02:39 tommorow to got to Basildon after my 3 weekly easter holiday weekend. Yea it’s a biatch, but it’s not all the time and the job pays well & I’ve never had a 4 day rota which I feel I’m at home more than at work.

Yeah well I start at 7am on Wed after my 2 weeks hol.
I’m at home nowadays 4 nights a week, and I quite like the job that I do, which all suits me down to the ground.:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Nights out have never been a prob to me, in fact I prefer them to day work.
If I had to come home everyday after a stupid o’ clock start, I’d be no good to man nor dog…and deffo not the wife.:joy:

Well after a 3:30 start I’m parked up in a nice industrial estate in Northamptonshire @ 4pm had steak , toms ,mush and spuds
After going to Tesco’s and getting 2 half price lamb shoulders and some dog food
Now watching you tube

Do you take your doggo with you?

No can’t as ports don’t allow animals

When I was at Malcolms, on a day cab, I used to get the 04.00am starts. Out bed at 02:30am then 3 x 15hr shifts. Do another 2 x 13hr shifts then they’d moan if I didn’t come out a Saturday.

The TM was a bit childish on the week I worked my notice. Just blanked me when I went into Grangemouth for paperwork. I usually try to leave the door open but when they take that attitude, I make sure never, ever go back )

How the ■■■■ do you get in then??
