Summer has arrived.

It’s here… Summer has arrived, just went to check my truck out this morning and came home to take off the sweatshirt and raplace it with a tee shirt.

Somebody needs to tell the Canadians then, this is what I’ve been doing on the Coquihalla Pass today

Summer my arse…

Hi NMM.I reckon thats really rain and your’e just trying to get a smart photo before you put the chains in the bags and stick them on E-bay.  .But seriously, this is really the worst time of year, the transition between winter and spring.things can change back and forth so much for a few weeks,it’s really a crappy and dangerous time.
Last week the temp was up to pl 10c up here so everyone had started changing from winter to summer tyres.Since Saturday it’s been snowing every day and the temp has gone back down to zero. :frowning: Take care.Mike

A foot of snow overnight , Highway 11 and TC1 closed !!! and a high of minus 3 degrees . Summer oh yeah :unamused:

So nice a sparkling truck for the summer that eventually arrived didn’t last very long … it poured torrents on my way to Ben & Jerry’s last night .
PS; So glad I don’t live in Canada

The day I stop to fit snow chains is the day I stop driving trucks :exclamation:
I once drove over the Cascades in a snow storm in the dark of night on route 20, a large sig at the start said ‘Stop here and fit chains’ … Yeah like hell I did, the guy asleep on the bunk never knew a thing.

I had 29’c in Utah and Wyoming this week and 24’c in New Brunswick today upon my return. I just saw Saskatchewan on the news though…glad I’m not there!

Ah hell yesterday was lovely here , even managed to wax my pick up in between the pub and supper , then woke up to this crap again .
NMM , bit of a slack Alice attitude on those chains dude , you’ll be chasing them down the hill again soon  .

No way them bad boys were like guitar strings mate, I was being filmed as I was putting them on, there was a news crew in the chain up layby, I had to throw the chains without swearing

A double whammy , must’ve been hell for you

FFS !
Mark the TV star now, did you use your best cockney accent or try John’s ‘David Attenborough’ touch ?

Both of which will still be met with something along the lines of “Where abouts in Australia are you from?”

I used my posh newsreader voice8-)

Didn’t bother asking which network it was so ain’t got a clue if they used it or not. Mind you I’m the first foreigner filmed on the Coq that put a set of chains on properly and didn’t need Jamie Davis’s crew to drag me up the hill, maybe because I don’t wear a wraparound stetson :astonished:

Hi NMM.Merely being curious[nosy]but what are the regs[if any]re chains nowadays in various provinces, as i noticed that you seemed to have snow chains on the first axle and ice chains on the rear.Is it a regulatory thing,or personal. Are there regs like here for EU to have chains [snow] for certain months and Northern Scandinavia [ice chains].Just curious if things have changed over the years.Mike

I think both sets of his chains are the same, I know on my truck any set can go on any wheel but I not had to use mine so far lol
passed through Vegas last friday was bout 30 degrees c at 10:00am was a lush looking day

I’ve only been to BC once and that was last summer so didn’t pay much attention to the chain up signs. In the US it can vary, in the eastern states they’re not required and obviously not in the flat central bits but in the western states its usually a case of it being law to have them on the truck wherever there is a flashing “chain up” sign. In Colorado its a legal requirement to have chains to even enter the state between some time in October and May, regardless of the actual weather. I’m not sure if other western states have such a law?

Summer has certainly arrived in NB. Lovely warn weather, clear blue skies and I’m now the proud owner of a new kayak which I’m about to hit the water in, in about 30 minutes. I’ll either be back on later with a photo of said vessel or I’ll have hit an iceberg and pending rescue attempts I will, or not be back on later!

New version of the Titanic??

Hi Taffy .It’s not to do with the size but if you look carefully the front chains look like normal chain whereas the rear ones have studs welded onto the cross links. These are specially designed for driving on ice as they bite into the ice.If the temp is very low in Canada or up here [min30c to min 40c] then normal snow chains just slide on ice which is why ‘ice’ chains are compulsory up here.Which is why i was curious what the regs are there.

I’m not to sure to be honest still in my green horn year but when I got my chains checked in the shops at the start of the year they didnt mention anything to me about ice and snow chains
