Stuck on A1 Northbound

Anyone stuck on here today…13/03/13.
I’m about 100yds from Goyencourt-est air parc about 80k north of C de Gaulle…nice Turkish lad made me an Espresso,he’s been here since 10pm last night and I’ve been here since 5am today… get some good days and some bad…

Hi Azer.Silly question but why are you stuck, put some pics up if u can.Mike

Autoroute du Nord, had some scary times on there in fog.My sympathy.I was in the last services before Paris years ago when this UK trucker was getting drunk on the beer. He was alcoholic, but what he didn’t know was the beer was alcohol free. He was getting drunk on the taste.

I’m stuck on a ferry in Cherbourg. Wont let us off so on it for an extra night. French are pathetic when it snows if you ask me. Over the top and pathetic.

Hope you got a cabin.

I have and on the upside they had to let the cattle trucks off so I now have a cabin to myself

Has Europe really ground to that much of a halt where drivers are losing almost a whole day or more.
Yes i have seen the news, but even so :unamused:

You have my sympathy, i left alencon at 0430 for caen, just managed to get the 1630 boat! Could not for the life of me see WHY they parked up 100’s of lorries? Arr in oiustreham to see a gendarm escorting a convoy of lorries exiting port. There was NO snow on the road.

The N13 to cherbourg fRom caen was closed , according to matrix at 1330 today Luke.

I left Caen this morning. Roads still dodgy but passable, a84 that is. Caen was rammed with waiting trucks.

I wasn’t stuck as in I lost traction, even though I’ve just put my summer tyres back on…!!!
I’ve only just got home but I’ve got a few pics ill put on…

Hi azer.No criticism was meant but as you see from my posts where i live i had limited access to international news and was surprised to read that Europe seemed once again to have ground to a halt, and for trucks to have been stuck for 24hrs or more seemed a bit OTT.
By the way it was lovely sunshine here today with a refreshing -22c.Mike

I have to agree with you…don’t think it would of happened in Germany…
I was speaking to a couple of drivers in St Hilllaire Cottes this morning and none of us could quite work out why things were as they were as none of us had heard that there were any accidents…up ahead…but then wtf do I know…

I saw a bit of a sprinkling of snow from Stuttgart North on Tuesday evening. Although they didn’t park up all the trucks or anything, there were cars falling off the road, left, right and centre. I was running out of time near Sinsheim, instead of near the Hockeheimring.
On Wednesday heading from Sinsheim to Rotterdam, there were two hold-ups. A major one on the A61 Mosel Bridge, a Southbound truck had hit the centre barrier and done a proper job of it. There were pallets all over the Northbound side :open_mouth: I think there must have been more than one truck involved. That took quite some time to get past.
The other one was just past Peffenhofen Services. I think a wagon had wandered onto the unploughed hard shoulder which had all the snow ploughed off the carraigeway on it. Whatever the cause, he’d done a proper job of jack-knifing it. The cab was facing South in the barrier, his trailer was across the hard shoulder and lanes 1 + 2, pointing North ish, all still stood on its wheels. It looked like it was going to be a bit of a sod to extract it though.

The core of the problems in various places around Europe is not the snow alone, but snow+WIND. Poor visibility, snowbanks re-appearing 10min after snowplough cleared them, vehicles blow to roadside or onto their sides, falling trees etc.

Slovakia yesterday and today:

Hungary is about the same.

Christ…that’s alot worse than what Northern France was like… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Peage at Senlis

This was near Conchy-les-Pots,I managed to get back on A1 from Paris via the A104 as it was all stood still on A3 around Alnay-sous-Bois,I then got diverted off at Jct 9 so had to nip across country around Compiegne, tried getting back on A1 at Jct 11 (Aire de Ressons) but Peage was closed, lorries and vans all over the shop…!!!
I got back on A1 at Jct 12 by hook or by crook and done about 3 miles and that was it…
Pic below is around Compiegne…

Morning of 13/03/13 on A1

They then opened an emergency vehicle exit and a few vans and cars picked our way through you big boys  so we could get off A1.

Alencon to Caen 12 hours ■■■■!!

As for the parking up it is rarely a Gendarmarie decision, That decision is usually made by The Prefecture and the Gendarmes just enforce it, the really stupid thing is your average Gendarme knows that a freighted truck will cope quite well but hey when the head honcho makes a decision they have to enforce it while watching the cars slip and slide all over

i was in it too the area around junc ten was mayhem northbound was about 30 km que i heard the next week in repalier that two people had been killed
