That’s better.

It must take who ever “uktramp” and “jingle Jon” is to keep logging into their “names” on here to keep posting toss
Well there’s enough reason to strap both ways if you strap one way only your pulling the load 1 way only, spread the load strapping both ways.
Beggars belief how bored stupid drunk thick or a mixture of the former some posts get, every driver has his or her own way of doing things and it works for them.Yes great idea, stand on the road side and adjust your straps if need be. If getting hit works for you then great. Very sensible.

I’m glad there’s some nice people ,we’ve all got a job to do , but we all don’t need to wave our manhood to do itSensible advice M8, you are not competent as I am sure you have heard before. Wait until you are more grown up as you are not C+E material.
You really don’t get it do you !
I don’t give 2 flying F’s what a east yorkshite Driver with a chip on his shoulder thinks
If you’re that GOD like come down South and do daily runs in a rigid into and around London doing about 6/7 builders merchants with vans and cars flying around left right and centre and dodging kamikaze cyclist and Uber taxi’s while trying to turn at a set of lights
OH SORRY NO YOU WOULDNT BECAUSE THAT WOULD MEAN YOU’LL HAVE TO DO SOME HARD WORK FOR A CHANGE AND KEY BOARD BASHING IS SO MUCH EASIER

Any new drivers may find this tip useful. When using ratchet and straps, always store your straps on the drivers side storage bins and your ratchets on the kerb side storage bins. This will help keep your strapping down of loads by throwing your straps over the load from the drivers side and your ratchets on the nearside. I took a load this week to St Ives in Cornwall and wanted to check and tighten the ratchets before setting off to find whoever had loaded the curtain side trailer had mixed them up, some ratchets were on the kerb side and some were on the drivers side. Always keep the ratchets to the nearside. Just a good safety tip and well worth remembering.
Your advice, though well meaning is IMHO incomplete. If you are going to give advice out get it right please. Why didn’t you include stopping after a period, in a safe place, to retension the straps? I’m thinking of sheet timber products.

OK I’ll let you work it out ffs load saw mill Niort France to Ouistreham dock… Portsmouth harbour to timber merchant in Shropshire, both long journeys.Pair of TWONKS
Easy, the France part of the journey is the least busiest with the quietest roads… near side U.K… adding ‘complete and utter ■■■’ just for effect… common sense ffs
Have you ever flipping ventured over that large expanse of water that they call the English Channel ■■?
A little… if you get lost… just ask.

Explain how to fasten two JCB loaders or similar from one side, try loading from Scunthorpe, the initial advice is wrong, the only time I can see any advantage having the ratchets on the same side is with a side roller sheetSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Perhaps you can explain why it can’t be done. I’ve delivered many typified machines. Never had a problem securing chains or straps on the near side.
Strapping over the wheels of a JCB requires 4 straps pulling in different directions, these are not abnormal loads, just a regular load out of Rocester every day in a curtainsider. Have you seen a CORUS / TATA Steel loading plan? It’s not ■■■■■■■■ or some jobsworth writing them, it’s proven load security. Did you tie all your sheet ties and dollies on the near side?

I’m not talking about 1 drop at a building site then scoot back out I’m talking about a proper days work delivering when your 1st drop is in park royal and your last is in Dagenham but you’ve got 4 in the centre of London and then out to Tilbury to pick plywood up and still be heading back to the coast

To be honest mate, I’ve never had sheet timber move. I strap it down real tight, using plenty of straps - then drive accordingly steady.
I’ve had lots of other mixed stock timber move - generally inwards - even when strapped tight… I always check this at intervals. Steel sections, tubes and other profile moves too. Checking is essential. Still strap near side … specifically for that reason.

Question for Smelly old driver and Jingle bells
Have either either of you transported large drums of cable ave 2.5 to 3.5 tons ?
How would you support and strap them down also how many straps per a drum would you use

No it isn’t. It’s a picture of a load that could easily be ratcheted from one side. The science of physics proves you wrong.

Yes, I have… and you already know the answer… so stop asking silly questions.
What UKT was pointing to was a generalisation, there will always be exceptions… which he’s already touched on.
I used to deliver machines with anchor rings, made it simple… others had to strap or chain more creatively, I also used to rope n sheet… which could not be done from one side… see: common sense!!!
