Strapping down a load

can anyone tell me if i can use 2 ratchets on one strap
ie use what is left over from the first ratchet

Unless the strap is properly fixed to the vehicle after the first ratchet it would come loose if the first ratchet came undone.

So I suppose the quest has to be, when the strap leaves the first ratchet how will it be attached to the vehicle body/chassis before going back over the load ?

I’ve no idea if it’s legal or not but I’m struggling to see how it’s a good idea for anything other than a light load that’s not likely to move anyway.

i think i read on this site that a driver was done by dvsa but cannot find it

It’s not really advisable.
The only time I would ever do that would be with old ratchets and a shortish strap holding a set of sheets on the bed.

But then the wife used to complain it was too tight

i have looked in the code of practice and cannot any ruling on this

You won’t find ‘rulings’ as there are no rules as such, just best practice and what you are suggesting is not best practice.

The other reason you won’t find anything in codes of practice is because as long as you are not expecting the strap to restrain more than it is capable of then there isn’t a problem. So if a strap has an LC of 2500 DaN you can do what you like with it as long as you don’t expect it to hold more than 2500DaN.

But of course what ROG has said is the answer. Realistically you can’t do it in a safe manner. Whatever method you use wI’ll be against the strap manufacturers best practice guidelines.
