Stranded in Hell

I don’t mind it now but not too often.
Anyway they messed up, I washed the tank at OJ’s which took a staggering 4 hours and went 7 miles to Newark to load. The arrogant ■■■■■■■ loader made me dismantle the product pump so he could examine it, even after a ceritied Kosher wash :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
When I got the notes I looked and found it was for some Kraft factory in Ontario and I ain’t doing that crap. I dropped th eload back in OJ’s compound and left the notes in the box. I had to come back to Yonkers anyway to inteview and probable new driver … Yes folks even the hire and fire is down to me it seems.

One good thing about going to Quebec is I can get Mars bars, Bounty’s, Crunchie’s Smarties, Aero’s and lots of British style stuff that we can’t get below the border unless we pay extortionate prices on line. A pack of McVitties chocolate homewheat for instance runs at $7.99 around here and a pack of Jacobs cream crackers are about the same.

Whats wrong with Ontario? If you dont mind Quebec, and Montreal at that, Ontario is a complete doddle.

Ontario is dam huge to drive across that’s what lol

Northern Ontario going to or from Manitoba has to be one of the most boring drives in the world, especially if stuck behind someone sticking to 90 kmh such as an RV or a Reimer “Express” truck. Its nice to get off the motorways now and again but HWY11/17 really do my head in.

Montreal is 150 miles from my house mate

Lol it just goes to highlight how crap it is working for many companies over here who pay their drivers a pathetically small amount of money for a “layover”

Seriously though, cant fault you at all and if that was more common, companies would be a lot more reluctant to sit drivers for days on end while they fish around for a better paying load than whats available immidiately.

Actually I felt insulted by it at first because it only works out at 43 hour detention when Kraft signed for 73 but in a heated discusion with management they told me they had stopped 3 ten hour breaks which I suppose is a bit fair as I di spend thet days wandering around Montreal parks and then truck stops.
By the way … our company do not pay lay over pay unless you have to take 34 hours off away from home, as I logged on duty every day whilst there i didn’t do that.

Hi Guys
I have just had a most interesting read !!
It sounds like you’ve all gone soft !!
You are all forgetting the long waits to get in and out of Hungary, Rumo, Bulgy…The days spent waiting at the Londra or the Telex to get cleared, or the week that I spent at the Telex waiting for the Gulf War to start before heading off to Syria because Iraq was closed…not to forget the last ten loads that just went down via Egypt, a week at Port Said before they could transit Egypt and then delays after that. Atleast you got good demmurage.
You are all to used to chasing to get home…
Big tuff truckies…wanna get home, wanna get home…I know I’m in for some stick now.
GS.

I never got stuck anywhere in Europe where I was not paid for. I don’t mind waiting as long as it was expected. When you arrive at a place like Montreal which is only just over 3 hours from my house and expect to be home that day, then get stuck there for 3 days it tends to be annoying, especially with an unacceptable currency in my pocket.

Same here. Having come n the scene in 2005 I obviously never did anything past Germany or Switzerland but if I got stuck somewhere I was still on the same day rate regardless. The difference in North America with milliage rate is that you’re not being paid well to begin with and to make a livable wage you have to keep moving all the time you’re allowed (or run bent to compensate) and when you sit for 2 or 3 days for no money, you go from being on the equivillent of a British wage in Britain to a Bulgarian wage in Britain. You just can’t substain it over a long period and that in my experience here is why so many British drivers have had to return to the UK as they’ve spent their savings and due to the chronic lack of miles at some companies (main fridge companies) they are taking home less than their outgoings. I dont recall people of my fathers generation going bankrupt in the UK because they got stuck in Istanbul a few too many times on no pay, perhaps it did happen that way too, I dont know?

Hi Guys
The only reason anyone went bankrupt for “being stuck” in Istanbul was because of the EFES Kontrol !! and cancelling…!! SNJFGOTP !!
Anyone know what that means ■■?
Happy days.
Nothing wrong with cancelling occasionally, in moderation of course.

sat at Kapikule for 4 days the 40c temp was a nuisance along with the flies, the turborg beer was crap, the genderama smoked more of my cigs than i did,all was well when Young Turk had enough electric to send a telex and all the troubles were sorted.

Another 3 day wait was in Sous,Tunisia, The wait there was not too bad as i was parked right on the beach and the hotel was cheap.

Was Tunisian work on the same vein as Morocco, ie clothes/garments etc back to Europe? Read a lot of Morocco (John Mann, Breda etc) but never heared much about Tunisia.
