STRAIGHT !

I bugger it up the other way.I jump in the rigids at work and try to make the bloody things “bend” the wrong way.

I’m having similar problems when and if I drive our car. I went with the mrs to tesco the other day, and after putting the wipers on because I was trying to exhaust brake, ballsing up the reverse into the car park bay, and finally rummaging around on thd dash for the park brake rather than between the seats (was looking in the mirror at the time), I’m now banned from driving the car when she’s in it! Has certain benefits though

Reversing an artic in a dead straight line is like a black art.

You should have a go at reversing a box trailer behind a 15M coach.

I know where you’re coming from… Donkeys years ago I drove an 18 tonner for the council with a small boring rig trailer that was used for taking pavement strength samples for Highways Technical Services. The trailer wasn’t much bigger than one of those genny trailers and you couldn’t even see it from the cab! It was simply impossible to reverse in any sort of controlled manner because of the ultra short wheel base relative to the coupling on the truck. It was quicker to simply unhitch the trailer and turn it round manually then turn the truck round and hitch it back up!

Are there no real drivers left on here ? ie. having to physically think about which way to turn the wheel when reversing …

Bit harsh Ray. I’ve been in an 18 tonner for the past couple of weeks and had one or two ‘why is the trailer not curling in?’ moments due to force of habits from driving artics 99% of the time. Guess I’m not a “real driver” then…

That;s one thing about driving a class 1 vehicle. I am one of these people that like to know where the arse end is. All I can picture is one mirror looking in to space and the other mirror blinded by a trailer. I will do it one day but that’s my worries
