Stopping Distances

I drive a Morris 1000. When you drive one, you look at the horizon cos that is where you will stop.

I was at a meeting of the Institute of Advanced Motorists and brought up this subject.I said with discs and radials and the lower centre of gravity we can do much better than those figures. The resultg was that they all laughed at me .R soles.IMOP.

We discussed the same at one of our IAM meetings and agreed that they were well out of date

Perhaps that shows just how different some IAM groups can be

anyone noticed that the slower the traffic the further some drivers keep from the vehicle in front
was doing 10mph the other day and the car in front kept about a 3 artic length gap between him and the vehicle in front :unamused:
then you get heavy rain and low visibilty and they keep half a car lengths distance between them and the vehicle in front

I know the answer to this one.

I used to (for my sins) train people to become driving instructors. One day while doing a part two session to prepare this one gentleman for his “driving test” we went on the motorway to help him with “making progress”, “speed” and “position”. The weather was not great a bit foggy and raining hard!

As we joined the motor way a low loader went by and disappeared in to a mist of spray and fog, I then noticed that the guy driving was starting to accelerate. When I asked him what he was doing the answer I received was that he wanted to get close enough to see the lights!

So drivers are happy as long as they can see the lights regardless of conditions!! and stopping distances!!

In this case, for “different,” I think I’d read some might be ‘out of touch’ instead.

:bulb: Surely one of the groups is … err… mmm… not correct.

I wasn’t expecting all this analysis. I just posted the images as a bit of fun after finding an old highway code.

Does anyone know what this road sign means?

Does anyone know what this road sign means?

From a 1946 book, it’s not something to do with the 1947 Olympic games?

No

Ok what about gas lamp lighters at work. Or the Conservative party ahead.

And when you get it wrong

This is in no way meant to offend those who like to convoy, not wear seatbelts or watch what their doing.

And the driver did get out ‘eventually’.

Bit of T-cut and that thing will be as good as new.

I’m old enough to remember that the torch means a school.

But isn’t information from that “guide” still used as a random question at the end of the DSA test? It used to be the one that most people were worried about when learning to drive.

It was like algebra or learning the periodic table :stuck_out_tongue:
