moomooland: No HGV driver in his right mind in an artic would try this left turn heading west off the A62 at the top of Wall Hill Dobcross Saddleworth! The driver had already passed two major turnings to Greenfield off the A62 (the A670 at Diggle and the A6052 at Delph) why pick the third one, a reverse fork, round an inaccessible corner the mind boggles you just would not attempt it.
This was the scene on Friday morning 28/9/12 after it obviously was unable to negotiate the sharp fork turn. Recovery teams arrived at the scene and with the help of a digger and a large tow truck it was eventually freed. Some damage was caused to a speed sign, dry stone wall, a bollard, as well as some damage to the trailer. This article also appears in the The Spotters Thread
Wonder if he was following the ‘Tesco approved route’ map that you’re supposed to follow so as not to upset the customers of Tesco by driving a big dirty truck past their houses?

Possibly following the approved route for the Tesco home delivery sprinter vans.
Looks do-able if you closed down oncoming traffic lane. Unless it was dark when he did it which makes these things much more difficult to predict. I remember unexpectedly coming to a right turn on to a way way tighter bridge than I ever imagined, because it was dark, going to some tomato? place, I think, on the fens near Spalding and had to back up to give it a second go.
Im not trying to be the big man or saying I’m the best driver in the country (even though I know i am) but am I the only one that thinks thats not even tight?? You could even spin it around if he wanted to go back the way he was coming from.
Such a bad bad rookie car driver in a lorry mistake to make.

BOLLOX
Here’s a pic from the other side, so the truck would’ve been coming from head on, and trying to turn left into the street on my right - this is where you think you could spin a truck around?
Looking at the bigger wider picture if he came up the end where the pic was taken and jacked it round from the other lane he would have had tons of room, a rookie error for certain, either that or the driver is new to rhd maybe ■■
That said it all very well and good making these suppositions from a photo, may well be a different story with your feet on the ground and actually at the scene

I agree with that, it is a possible turn - although 1 that shouldn’t have to be done to be honest.
I’ve often used the Holmefirth route to Oldham when Woodhead’s been busy, and there’s a nasty turn at the top of Greenfield onto the A62 where you have to use all the road, and it goes over a bridge that’s in the middle of an S bend, possible but not a nice 1 to do.
Its very awkward cause you need to use opposite lane twice to make that turn and other road users wont have a clue what your doing so will give you no help by stopping, he has turned into it like you would driving a car! Newbiee me thinks or someone half asleep
is that definately where the incident took place?
In the pics of the truck there are buildings on his offside, but the view of the junction doesn’t show any buildings.
Even allowing for the pic of the junction being cropped on the right hand, surely by the position of the unit in the first pics there should be some buildings showing.

No I don’t think, I KNOW I could. It’s a piece of ■■■■ with loads of room!!! You would have to drive on the wrong side of the road and turn left into it then back out but there is plenty of room to get the unit round in that side turn.
Just taken a closer look and I’m even more confident than I was before… Anyone that is comfortable behind the wheel of an artic would absolutely ■■■■ that!!!

I lived close to this location for many years and can tell you that this is not the first artic to try this manoeuvre and all have finished up in the exact same position. I had a picture published in the Oldham Chronicle may years ago of an ERF stuck in the exact same place will try and find if i can and post it here. Don’t be fooled by the location picture believe me the camera does lie it is far tighter than it looks.

Fair comment - if you say it ain’t do-able then I’ll take your word for it.
