Stobart tracker app

I would have though stobarts have though about the riskis involved with this, although it does seem abit OTT I guess there though is, anyone can follow the trucks anyway from somewere where its lightly to have a high value load to where ever they park up, if your into nicking diesel its not normally very hard to find a parked truck anyway.

I dont belive it gives any info about the actal driver does it?

The flip side is that if you are using the app to track and stalk a lorry then you phone is incriminating you with all kinds of GPS location information.

But, a) following a truck from a high value pick up might be 700km… That’s a lot of fuel burnt, and then they might take it into a depot, so burnt and wasted fuel.

b) if it gives the fleet number or truck name, then it’s not hard for the authorities to get the driver details and have a chat, but also, shouldn’t the company get a quick visit since they’re running ISOtrack and will be able to see if drivers are speeding etc, and should be discaplining them to prevent it being a regular occurance?

What a stupid f*****g idea

Scarab:
As everyone has said, It’s ridiculous.

Just checked the 3 trucks nearest to me:

  • 1 is obviously on a break down in a very dark dingy corner of an industrial estate, near where a collection is done for a very valuable load.

  • 2 is on break in a layby

  • 3 is doing (according to the app) 53 mph along a single lane road.

Now I really don’t care what speed anyone is doing along what road, that’s their business, but I’m genuinely concerned that within 10 miles of me there are 2 drivers in isolated locations, one possibly with a high value load on, and anyone with an apple device and £2.99 can track them.

Like has been pointed out, you could very easily track a truck from a high value pickup, wait till they park up at night, once they’ve been idle for say 4 hours they will more than likely be asleep so you can go rip their curtains up - or worse.

I think this is a very distasteful example of a company really disregarding the safety of its drivers, their vehicles and the load. :frowning:

No ■■■■ sherlock, they couldnt give a monkeys about the drivers, bottom of the pile, lowest of the low. Yard men get treated better than we do.

Would love to know what their insurance company view is.

Willing to bet they self-underwrite.

this ^^^^

I’m not a big Stobart hater , but even though I live 10 mins from Crick , if I needed a job badly I always thought they may be an option . Not any more , the TV programme and now this ridiculous idea means I wouldn’t even consider them . It’s bad enough being tracked by your planners but knowing that ANYONE can track you 24/7 is utter madness . And all in the name of PR !!!

I don’t normally slag the company I work for but this is a step too far in my opinion. I’ve emailed the app designers for more information on what the app provides. I wonder if the data protection act offers any protection against this? Not happy and will make my feelings known at work.
The reps will be getting involved with this. Then I guess the next step is union/legal advice.

Is the data live or a few minutes/hours old?

interlog:
Is the data live or a few minutes/hours old?

I wouldn’t have thought it would be much good for spotters to have an app informing them where they could have spotted a Stobbie truck :grimacing:

Its just a crappy app that shows where a stobart truck is and its speed, the HA and goverment see more via the thousands of cameras on the road network :unamused: christ I can give more info about a stobart truck than that app

The point is not every tom ■■■■ and iPhone has access to that information do they, they do with this “crappy” app. :unamused:

Hopefully it will be removed very soon

What a gift this is for criminals, not just small fish curtain slashers, but a tap on the window with a sawn off type that will take the load, the wagon, and the driver.

wow lots of trucks!!
by Aaron Wardle
This is a great app, even though I am not into truck spotting I was interested to see what this app has to offer and was amazed when I launched it to see all the Stobart trucks in my area I never realised there were so many.

The coverage of trucks and live truck updates is just great, I’m currently hunting around the map checking the trucks speed MPH, and will certainly use this app when I spot some trucks when I am out and about.

I’m sounding like a converted truck spotter, lets wait and see

This app should be removed !!!

This app puts the stobart drivers at risk of attacks, hijackings and is also an infringement of the drivers privacy !!!

This has got to be the stupidest idea I have heard of in a very, very long time for all the reasons mentioned above. It goes to show just how far out of touch with reality senior management (in this case at Stobarts) are with the sharp end of their business.

The limited veiws I’ve seen of Stobart senior management by way of their tv programe etc seems to be who cares as long as it makes money and advertises Stobart.
Look at Tinkler at that truckfest thing and the new airport on C5 all he banged on about was shifting merchandise.

I’m also cynicle enough to think they attached the Christmas record to H4H simply as H4H is high profile at the minute.
The record is about a bunch of Stobart gimps singing about Stobart.
Yes some money will go to a deserving charity but it’s all about getting Stobart out there.
Got to admire their PR man though.

How long before we hear about an Eddie spotter running over a pedestrian or cyclist while busy on the 'phone tracking a lorry?
Bernard

Apart from the obvious issues for drivers with this app and the callousness of Stobart management regarding their drivers welfare and safety, what I find remarkable is that anyone would be even interested in this app. You really do have to be some sort off half baked ■■■■■■ to even consider using it. Personally I would be amazed to find out that anyone who spends their life “spotting” lorries could actually afford a smartphone to use the app, let alone have the wherewithall to operate one.
