Does anybody know what is happening with Steve the bulker (Geordieboy from this site):?:
He hasn’t made a post over on truckscan since Dec 2005,I know that Pat Hasler does keep in contact with him but he mostly posts at onlinetruckers now.
I have tried to post on Steve’s diairy page on the long haul forum but that truckscan site always seems to be messed up and I can’t ever get my password to enable me to post
It would be nice to find out how he’s getting on as he’s been there since Aug 2004 and was a real goldmine of topclass info when he was regularly updating his diairy. The last word form Pat was that he was thinking about coming home to earn some real money, can this be right
Also Cattleman (Sez),
Are you still hard at it hauling bulls/steers
You are the only family that I can find on the web that has gone over to Canada on the PNP scheme and the husband is not employed as an OTR driver.
Can you give us an update on how things are going for yourselves
regards,
BT.
Heyup Big Truck,
I’m alive & kicking, still OTR with HWT. New truck (well, if you can call a 2006 Freightliner Classic NEW!!)
Landed Status is imminent, a lot of things have changed in my life over here. Time at my laptop is becoming very few & far between, now.
I’m sorry you miss my travel tales, you & a helluva lot of others!!! I’m keeping a paper diary & one day, i’ll transfer it all, either here or on one of the other sites.
I pop in now & again, just to see if things are still as grim over there, i’m VERY well, I think i’ve settled in over here now, there were times when i’d wondered what i’d done, but I’ll stay here, thank you very much.
Keep the shiny side up boys & girls
Geordieboy
Glad to hear you’re well and that all is good for you ‘over there’.
Have a search around here and you’ll see you were missed in your absence; I for one was watching your diaries whilst considering the ‘pros & cons’.
Really glad to hear everything has worked out alright and your going to be staying .
I know you say that you are not on the internet as much but I see on the Siemens transport website that there are alot of testimonials from families (and yourself ) who went over in late 2004 and how well they have settled in.
Are the majority of them still there
Also do you know of many Brits who have gone over on the PNP who are not driving OTR
How do you find the winter driving
What do you think of Saskatoon as a city to bring up a young family
Sorry for all the 's
You could always put your “paper diaries” into a book the same as Coffeeholic as I reckon it could be a good seller especially with the interest in moving to Canada from drivers in the UK.
P.s. met any nice Canadian lasses yet
now then big truck!
everything is going great here - i am now working so havent had much time for the pc lol
hubby is still driving cattle we have been here over a year now - hes just got a
new volvo so hes like a big kid - he didnt find the winter driving too bad i think it was a bit hair raising at first but he soon got into it. the winter here wasnt as bad as we thought it would be it was mild and e ven when it wwas in the minus 30s it still didnt feel as cold as britain.
its exceeded our expectations here and dont regret it one bit.
thanks for thinking about us and take care
sez
Sez,
Thats great that everything is working out for you as well .
How do you find living in Lethbridge is there much to do socially and how far are you away from a major city
If I ever did decide to take the plunge I think Alberta would probably be the first province I would look at.
hi again
lethbridge is a city but feels like more of a large town i think the population is 70 000 there seems plenty to do here for us its better than we expected so its a bonus the hubby and kids like to golf and they are big into golfing here - calgary is 2 hours away the rockies are just over an hour as is the american border into montana - its just ab out always sunny here even in winter so thats a plus too not getting homesick yet but wouldnt mind some fish and chips lol
sez
Hi Sez
Have you got a joeys only seafood near you? their fish & chips are gorgeous,if you get to one try them out.
rocket
yes we do and there is another fish and chip shop but its not the same - i guess we spoilt in yorkshire - wetwang chippie on the a66 - best fish and chips in the world
sorry to make you drool,i thought joeys was quite tasty, but then i’m not that fussed on fish and chips.
Ria (rockets mrs)
Heyup Big Truck
A lot of the guys & their families, I’m afraid, have packed up & gone back “home” A lot of other guys, have achieved their “Landed Status” & are looking elsewhere for work A few of the guys are running “domestic”, Canada only. Pay is less & the miles are few & far between. Give me the miles!!
A few guys have come over on their own bat, so to speak, usually through the PNP.
Winter driving is a doddle Respect the roads & the conditions.
I was working the “Ice-Roads” this winter, up in the North West Territories, That was an experience I’ll never forget!!
There were 3 of us from HWT & about 12 from EDGE Transport. As usual though, we were paid poorly, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. As you can tell, my diaries are W-A-Y out of date!!
I, personally, think Saskatoon is a great city, loads to do, things to see, plenty of golf courses . Yeah, OK, it IS bleak in the winter, but the summers make up for that. About 32 degrees C at the moment.
Just had my parents out for 2 weeks & they didn’t want to go home!!
As far as Canadian “Lasses” go? Yep, I’ve found a “Good” one & things couldn’t be better
I’ll try & keep you all posted on developments over here
Stay safe,
Steve
