If you can while the NATO bigwigs gathering is on.
Officially, it’s not until Sept 4 -5 but central Cardiff now has a Berlin Wall (you can drive around, but not through the middle), and night-time M4 closures have started.
The event centres on Celtic Manor and Cardiff Castle, but its impact (VIPs with police outriders etc) will be felt as far away as Gloucester.
I can’t wait, I drive from Gloucester to Swansea and Ebbw Vale every day Mon-Fri. The night closures are already annoying me when I get to the Celtic Manor at around 4am.
Means they send you off round the SDR/A48 which someone tipped an artic on one of the roundabouts today.
Luckily I miss Mondays’ trip to the Cardiff area due to the Bank Holiday (thank Christ as it avoids deliveries in turd-holes like Nelson and Roath).
The thing is, I’m covering the Swansea area on the 1st September, most likely coming in from Hay (sod all there but the locals think it’s great) on Wye; I take it I wont encounter any problems going home via the M4?

Is that why they have put all that fencing up on bottom off A449 at Newport, if so how much has that cost the tax payer.
No idea, but if you’re gonna break down, there’s the place to do it. You’ll have a wrecker in front of you in no time. Don’t get out for a Jimmy tho, your little German soldier will be in somebody’s telescopic sight guaranteed.
could they not just shut the 2 bridges into wales it would be so much easier ffs …
surely this could have been held at some military base where security is already in place ( some dark damp undrground unwelcoming place) oh yeah that sounds like Wales in the Big Pit …
waste of tax payers money …
on another note would an illegal immigrant get past this security if no then this is what we need at our borders …
Maybe if they didn’t advertise the ■■■■ thing they would not need so much security. The stupidity and wastefulness of our so called leaders beggars belief…again.
So, Cardiff Castle has stood for hundreds of years but it isn’t strong enough without a metal fence. All that security so Roath might be a crime free zone. No?

When they had the G8 meeting at Gleneagles Hotel it was absolute mayhem for the locals just trying to get on with their lives. We were promised all sorts of spin off benefits which we are still waiting for.
