Hi all,
I’m training to be a pilot at the moment and I due to be finished in October. Looks like i will be cancelling the rest of it and waiting to see what the tourism industry looks like in a year from now or so.
My question is, I dont expect starting up my own firm will be as financially rewarding as being a pilot, but what level of money fo you reckon you could earn? I would want to earn as much as I could, being a good businessman and all. Is the risk/effort/reward ratio worth it?
Thanks.
P.s: I have been driving class 1 for 3 years now, I am 21.
Not anymore. Not unless you have clients lined up. You’ll make a living but dont expect to be living a life of luxury.
We’re going into a recession. I’m not sure it’s a good time to look at starting on your own. In any industry but particularly a cut throat notoriously thin margin area.

Thankfully, I think, I am an ‘essential worker’, so I should be able to ride my way through this. Looks like I’ll have to wait a few years for aviation to recover.
Ok crack on then mate.
Btw we’re all ‘essential workers’ but we’re also all in the same boat and if there’s nowt to transport you cant affect that.
Looking at what’s happening, I don’t think there’s going to be a big call for commercial pilots when this has finally finished, think there’s going to be a few looking for work.
Drivers too.
Personally better off retraining as an Ambulance driver, they seem bizzy.

This is NOT the end of the world as we know it.
In a year or so when we should have a vaccine, when we have protocols in place to deal with this bug, things will improve again.
We will see changes, but we won’t all be living in caves.
It IS serious and should be taken seriously.
It isn’t just a common cold, but neither is it rampant Ebola Nor a nuclear disaster.
.
There will be jobs for pilots later. Get type cleared for a Max and you won’t have much competition to drive that!

Obviously after all this cluster ■■■■ is over,… . and even more obviously start in any field other than road transport haulage, go for something with more profit and scope and fewer regulatory restrictions and less much larger competition.that will eat you alive and spit what’s left out.

At least that’s one positive coming out of this at the moment, Boeing are no longer in the lime light so they can have some time to themselves to fix all their issues.

Scream!
But that’s the problem!
They were trusted to check and mark their own homework, and proved that self regulation does not work. There is no (reliable) cheap alternative to independent oversight.

It would be commercial suicide for Boeing to overlook anything that they find now. I also dont think the FAA will be making the mistake of giving Boeing too much freedom again.
