I’ve applied for a few jobs with driving plus in the Midlands, through there own website and 3rd party job sites. But never hear anything back. Do these jobs not exist, or am I doing something wrong?

I applied once last year, got an email with some guy’s phone number in it asking me to call him to discuss my application. Called, no one answered, no one called me back. Didn’t bother again until earlier this year when I applied for a different job, this time only received an automated email confirming my application was received. Yeah, no.
i did apply for a job with them once, heard nothing back, then… wait for it… 6 months later they called me back appologising for the “long wait as they re busy”, told them already had a job thank you very much.

LOL, just got a call from them…they asked if I was still interested in “the class 2 driver job you applied for about a month ago”
I don’t really want to put doom and gloom on the subject, but…
Many of the adverts posted by agencies on sites like Totaljobs, Indeed, etc, are in fact for jobs that do not exist, and are just there so the agencies can basically attempt to get you “onto their books”, promise the world, but give nowt back in return.
WORD OF WARNING:
Especially watch out for adverts on the major job sites that have the titles along the lines of “TRAINEE/JUNIOR HGV DRIVER” are often put on there by training brokers (the ones that often claim that they have sites nationwide) so if you respond to them, they can attempt to rip you off BIG TIME on class 1/2 training. If you still have any training outstanding, get at LEAST two assessment drives directly from different training schools in your area (or perhaps the forum sponsor) before parting with any hard earned cash.
Or another way to try to get work is fill up your car with copies of your CV, and then tour all the firms that run wagons in your area (perhaps up to a 20/30-mile radius from your house if you are willing to commute that far). Ask for the transport manager at each yard you call at. Take a hi vis, steelies and all your cards (CPC, driving licence, tacho, etc), and you never know, you might get offered a job on the spot! There are ALWAYS firms that are willing to take on new drivers with zero experience.
You could try specialist driver agencies like Driver Hire, etc. There should be a DH branch in your area.
I wish you all the very best in your job hunting.
Garbo.

I will say ALL of the adverts posted by agencies on sites like Totaljobs, Indeed, etc, are in fact for jobs that do not exist, even jobs posted on agencies own websites. At best they’re bait-and-switch ads, where they will try to get you to accept a job totally different from the one advertised and this is not limited to driving jobs only.
True story, last year I was looking for a job change and called ADR Network to inquire about 2 class 2 jobs, 1 was for trunking (red flag already), another was store deliveries with 2-3 drops/day; well guess what, the lady on the phone told me they had no positions available at the moment for the jobs advertised but wouldn’t I instead be interested in doing a class 2 multi-drop for Tuffnells, local of course with up to 50 deliveries of various items/parcels per shift? I didn’t even register with them.
Hell, one of my own (now ex) agencies that I was getting most of my work from used to blatantly bait-and-switch on me until I got fed up with it. £10.50 p/h, 2 drops would turn into £9.30, 8 drops etc. I’m sure there’s a law somewhere against this but meh.
Not to be all doom and gloom, but this is the reality of working with agencies. There are very few decent ones out there. Most of the work out there is crap for crap pay and there are just far too many drivers competing for the better ones and it’s especially bad for new passes as agencies think you’d be up for any work for any pay.
Many agencies advertise jobs that simply don’t exist and when you do register, simply try and get you to accept something else - Usually lower paid and more physically demanding. I had this when I applied for a Class 2 Tipper job for £14 and social hours. When I got there, the agency could only offer me something in removals or pallet multi drop - Waste of my time
I have had a poor experience of Staffline and wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.
There is nothing wrong with signing up to 5 or 6 agencies at once and almost encouraged so you can figure out which ones work for you and which ones are a waste of time.
Just figure out if you want to be PAYE or LTD ahead of signing up as not all will offer both options.

In fact, I had a similar experience back in June.
Saw a ad posted by a Jarrow-based agency (begins with a B and ends with an S) on JT for a multi-drop pallet contract based in Stockton. The agency claimed that it involved between 8-10 drops per day, and that there were no pump truck drops (all with fork truck).
When I went up to be “put on their books”, they claimed that the contracts manager was on holiday, and I had to wait for a week (yeah right ) before I heard anything else (which of course I never did)!
