Is it possible to split a 24hr rest period to board a ferry the same way you split a daily rest to do the same ?

Agreed.
We had a much longer discussion about it, but in a word:
NO.
You can interrupt a FULL Daily Rest, but not a Weekly Rest Period, nor a Reduced Daily Rest Period.
