Speed limits in Ireland

There has been much talk of raising the current 40 mph speed limit for heavy goods vehicles on single carriageway roads. Ireland seems to have led the way on this. According to :

gometric.ie/revisedVehicleSpeeds_ad.pdf

Speed limit for all trucks > 3500 kg is now 80 kph (50 mph), whereas the speed limits in the UK for trucks > 7500 kg on single carriageway roads is 65 kph (40 mph). Is there any other EU country that has a speed limit higher than 70 kph for HGVs?

More interestingly and perhaps more rightly the speed limit on single carriageway roads for double decked buses is 65 kph (40 mph), 80 kph on single carriageway roads for coaches, and on motorways 90 kph (56 mph) down from the 100 kph (62 mph) they are allowed in the majority of the EU on motorways.

Surely this is right to bring parity between all heavy vehicles. We’ve all seen how badly double decked buses are driven - they should have a lower speed limit than lorries. And why should coaches be allowed to travel faster than lorries? HGVs will now be permitted the same speeds as them on main roads and on motorways. Maybe the rest of the EU should adopt these limits.

I did’nt realise there was any such thing in Ireland :grimacing:

I mean most Irish registered wagons don’t seem to take any notice of limits over here!

Most them prob have Irish Licenses tho cant get points on it in UK ! i think !

Dont think they really care tho to be honest !

Spec if the boss is payin the fines ! :sunglasses:

They alway’s aim for the other side of the speedo, the part that say’s 120mph,anything less then the vehicle is off the road for a defect

Theres one good thing i suppose i can say about the Irish and their wagons you never seem to see them broken down or involved in accidents but they seem to go as fast as they can everywhere.
