Speed conviction on tacho evidence

Hi all, I have a question relating to the tacho card and or disc, can the police convict or summons / fine the driver the driver if on inspection of the tacho card and or disc showing excessive speed ie over the speed limit in a given area. No speed gun or radar trap just a routine or stop check inspection.
Thanks.

Tacho cannot be used as evidence for prosecution or defence in speeding cases as a rule but there was a case where many were prosecuted because the nearest 50 limit was X amount of miles from the yard and they were regularly above the 40 limit well before they could possibly reach the 50 limit - that was a join prosecution by police and vosa

My understanding is that you cannot be convicted for speeding on tachograph evidence alone, it can however be used as evidence of speeding which may go against you if for instance you had an accident.

What he said. They need corroborating evidence for a conviction.
