South West Truckfest '88 > '90

cracking pictures, brought back lots of memories from when i was growing up and buying the magazines, was it craig potter who had the snow tiger topline in the background?

also see a terry seaman bulk foden in the background of one picture

Richard, some great pic’s there.
Takes me back a bit,I ran a F reg E series ERF which would of fitted in nicely here, along with a pair of 2035 powerliners, identically painted on E plates.
I used to see Yeomens F88 around the north circular, I think it was based in Park Royal, and did low loader work as well as bulk aggregates.
Some good family business, shown, I wonder how many are still operating.
If my memory serves me right, another well known west country family business Gullivers Travels Self Drive Hire used to sponser the competitions there.
Nice to see the Ford cargo hooked to a tipping trailer, they were seriously underrated, easy access, easy to work on, great visability, and with a L10 250 with a low UW, great at 32000 kg .
We used to run cargos along side 814’s, and they could match them under any conditions, especially on mpg, but were more fun to drive.
British trucks, long gone but not forgotten.
Paul.

Paul,

I passed my test on a Cargo artic, in Exeter back in '91
Remember the brakes being a bit touchy - oil over hydraulic I think they were, which apparently was the reason…or at least that was my excuse.

Back in them days I was mad about trucks and wanted to pack up working as an ag. engineer (covered in cow s., mud & oil) and go out on the road - hence the reason for getting a class 1…never did pack up the spanners - or at least that area of work.

To be hon. I can’t really call home many other west country hauliers other than the ones featured from those days
Brian Harris has now packed up, Parsons at Exeter still going & Hottots as well - to the best of my grey matter.
