South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

Tony, you should definatley do something’with the Transcon. Get it sorted and around some shows. You’ll get plenty of support from this forum.
[how about some pictures of it? It is afterall very much a South Wales truck isn’t it?]
Neil.

Hello Neil
Thank you for the encouragement . The Transcont was new to Hoover in Merthyr and then to J&S haulage in merthyr before I bought it . It needs a bit of work now but a start has been made , not sure how long it will take but I sure I will get there. I miss taking it out for a run on a sunday. ! I will work out how to post some photos.
I see the scania still going strong.
Tony

I will do my best with the transcont Andrew. You have fun in malta go get the old ones while you still can , new regulations are soon to be introduced which will probably lead to a lot going for scrap.

Any chance you could get it back on the road for September? Reason being theres the Retro truck show at Gaydon, should be a great show and well suited to a Transcontinental. Good luck with it anyway, let us know on here how its going.

llanwern,notice the bsc crusaders

Hello Andrew
If I not mistaken the area where the crusaders are is A10 offices and the tunnels in the mirror of the lorry are now loading/unloading bays for the pickle lines and 5 stand mill . The spot where the marathon is parked is now used by hazells to park the two internal daf 95’s (6x4 units) when not in use , that pull coils on purpose built trailers around the plant up to 5 at a time. I used to have an office on the corner of the building behind the view of the photograph.
Keep up the good work with the thread.

Regards

Tony

hi tony,
thanks for the info. and kind words mate.regards to your family.are you doing the malta show again in a fortnight?

Hello Andrew
I’ll have a look for some of my old books and see if i got some of the old registrations/ notes I used to make… Been in Llanwern since leaving school in 1982 , worked in most of the departments and still there !. Malta is a no for the show this time so its down to you and the boys to find some old gems. but I hope to be out for the change over with the public transport on the 3rd of july.
The family has told me to make the effort to do something with the transcont this year , I still got it but rarely have the time to do much. Must make the effort.

hi all i drove b242ath for a while after i got layed off from liscombes blue line put a pump of a 28 on it so it did go a little bit better as long as you didn,t get the heavy weights but you did get an extra 50p a load for any theing over 20 ton

hi john,
the best shunter with joint’s in my opinion was jason morgan.if you had a trailer he loaded, you could go anywhere without having to stop and tie it all over again.his father graham and their mate elliot were also the same.if you had one the many trailers taff (rip) had loaded you would be lucky to make the bloody m4 without stopping

i agree jason ,& graham was a good sheeter there was some good sheeters with firms in the abbey, i remember norm sheeted a trailer his dollys was tight a driver tipping cut the rope with a knife to take the sheet off    the hardest trailer was blue line loop tilt with the yellow sheet they made, i seen dai cardiff the other day he owns central garages in cardiff he is still driving him & his old man(rip) owned abbey transport
