That Steyr was crashed and the body swapped to an MAN 13tonner which did the bulk of the long distance car recoveries for many years. This truck had a bigger brother in a Steyr 91 high roofed 4x2 underlift [in the usual yellow] which did a massive amount of work over the years. Anyone know where it is now?
pete 359:
ahhh, funny you should mention that, as i was about to post this image of the aforementioned cliff ashley standing on top of one of margamās fine 26 tonners.the story behind it is that long serving shrewsbury driver geoff passant (now deceased)was heading back to hanwood one thursday night when, believe it or not travelling at over 50 mph in the dark he rounded a left corner and the 26 tonner went right, down the bank and as i recalled demolished a gazeboo.when i turned up every well board each weighing over 70kg.had been flung off the trailer also.on the following sunday a gang of us and two mobile cranes turned up and removed the coil from someones garden.anyone who knowās the āback roadā as south wales steel drivers did and still do were astonished that geoff could do that speed on that road with a 26 tonne coil onā¦some of the time!r.i.p mate.
hi andrew is this same geoff passant who had purple 8 wheel foden can remember my dad running with him bit of a character always somking cigars cheers ian
