Hi Andrew,
Possibly before your time on the road,a driver from up this way,a chap called Colin King drove for W G Davies. I remember him having a brand new Atkinson for them in about 1970,last I heard of him ,he was on for a firm, that were featured in one of the trucking magazines,he must be retired now.
Cheers Dave.

hi finnly 300,good to see you posting images.i recognised that cab you saw.i took this photo in fort william in 2006.
Hi Andy me and brother bought it off a local farmer with intention`s of restoring back into GOULDINGS of NEWENT but loss the storage space and other things had to take priority. So we ended up selling it to Mr Bailey who did a far better job than we could have ever dreamt of doing.
Cheers Pete
NZ JAMIE:
G’day,
Top pics again fellas. I found an old magazine artice on the coal convoys to the steel works in the mid 80’s,I hope I don’t ruffle to many feathers with this one,I don’t imagine these guys were on everyones chrissy card list back then, but hey they were tough times and at the end of the day they had a family to suport too.
As a kid I remember seing one of these convoys, pretty impressive, wish I’d had my camera.
Cheers Jamie[/quote
I worked with Bill May for many years, although is was too young to be driving at that time (i started in 89) i went on to do the job of bulking coal from P.T .Thanks a great post.
thanks mike 68.here are some from the well publicised 1984/5 coal convoy’s.these came about as i recall when the train drivers came out in support of the striking miners.so the then british steel had to rely on road transport to supply llanwern with coal and coke.whatever you’r views are,to me these were just hard working men doing a job and in my opinion creating an awesome sight, the like of which we may never see again.thanks to my peterbilt co-driver/photographer mate on the 2009 road runs and shows, mike stubbs.
mike stubbs drove for evans transport, they were based across the road fromj&m transport.
poole dock and there is a hell of a lot of well sheeted timber on that little 4 in line with a d series up front.
