Hi Andrew, love the Cardiff Transport pics, they were some hero’s those boys…was there any link with Ken Jones Transport?, or did the local MAN dealer just have an ACE salesman on the patch?, as those F8s were very popular with some of your local hauliers.
Re the Tymms pic, haven’t seen that one before, I would like to say it was the shutter…
but you never know. They were the undisputed kings of Brymbo works!
Most of us got in via BRS Wrexham for a 10% margin, so only loaded out of there when there was no work from Shotton
Here is a question…who remembers Albert from the traffic office at BRS, what a bloke!!! He was blind but knew everyone, the fitters used to take him to the Wrexham Larger club who BRS loaded out of on a Friday, my mate Phil , a new fitter at the time had to take him, didn’t know he was blind, asked him if we are all right left coming out of the yard…Albert said, yep all clear…PMSL
Happy days
Pete, I have a load of these pics if you want them, PM me your email

Hello both . The depot in Witney was in Shipston on stour probably from mid-sixties I am sure my brother Mr.Steel will correct me if I am wrong ,only driver I can remember was Malcolm Dix character of a man .
Hi all
Re: JR’s Witney change over back in the sixties the change over point was in a lay by on the A40 a few miles from Burford after leaving the b road from Cirencester via Bibury.
The foreman driver was Bill Greenaway. He and his brother Ted (Wooly Ted) lived in Shipton under Wych wood.
Bill’s home phone number was on the cabs ,303 iirc Did the change over myself a few times.
A few other names I remember besides Malcolm, Pete Treasure, Digger, and Roy Fowler and Eddie Creed who
were based in Oxford.
Regards, Allan

Hello Deputy Dog
Youre really showing your age with those JR changeovers, most of them. had gone in the late 70s and early 80s. I remember Trevor Sparrowhawk and his mate and the two who were based in Carterton, one was Reg but I can
t remember his mates name. Malcolm dix was still there when I finished in 1989, he must have been one of the originals when John was running the show himself. Look after yourself and don
t take any chances, we`ve got a long way to go yet.
Best Wishes
Mike

There is a mal Dix working in Owens Llanelli.not sure if it’s the same one
a few of Mike Tymms motors, proper yard!
and an 88 for good measure!

Blue MikeHill,
Hi,
The Malcolm Dix mentioned in my post sadly passed away some years ago, he was from the Burford area.
If he was still with us with us i am almost sure he would be in his mid to late eighties
Regards Allan
Hiya,
South Wales Hauliers etc is always my first look-see when opening
Truk Net and I did most of my “touring” of your area when i was a
younger driver, one of things that during the Atkinson Borderer era
was when passing JRs “depot on the island” and immaterial of time
of day the fenceline facing the road always seemed to have loads
of his motors (Atki’s) parked up when most hauliers would be out
earning a crust.
Harry Gill,
Hi Harry
I worked for JR at that time and there were always some ’ spare motors ’ on the lower park nearest the roundabout. You would sometimes get back to the yard and they would want your motor in the garage for some reason. No problem, take the plates off yours put them on a ’ spare ’ and away to go !
And there were always new motors parked in the barn on his brother Williams farm a few miles from the yard
awaiting the spray gun
Regards Allan, Look after yourself at this difficult time

Hiya,
Thanks for that Mrsteel that’s cleared that up I have on occasion
been directed to swap plates to keep the job going. The first
time I saw the JR line-up I thought Oh’ no not another one to hit
the buffers but thankfully not the case, you keep well and good
health to your family.
Hi all,
Great input from some real knowledgable members there boys. Here are a few from South Wales and Steel haulage. The first pair to me,looks like Trostre.Standing next to Dennis Seabourne’s 1635,The late “Jimmy The Rat”,known and loved by everyone on the steel.R.I.P. Thanks for posting Andrew. The Invincible in the photo is TDW991 but Bert had TDW 990 and according to Paul Heatons book 990 was allocated to Wynns Birmingham Depot. But its home base was Shaftesbury St Newport.
