The foden tippers I am sure we’re parked at brs Bridgend when I started their in 1969 they were parked for a good time then moved on, the building in the photo looks like the garage in Bridgend branch before the warehouse was built behind the tippers sorry not more information.

homeward-bound:
Wow what a walk down memory lane this thread has been for me.

I saw my stepdad mentioned back on page 59. He was the P&O Pandoro driver who operated out of Hills Transport Cardiff in the 70’s - John ‘johnny’ Long. After marrying my mum in my birth town of Liverpool he was offered the position based in Cardiff and we moved lock stock and new born baby (my little sis) from Liverpool, down to Cardiff. I was 5 or 6 years old and this was the early 70’s. Been here ever since so count myself an honorary welshman.

This was when my relationship with Hills Transport (and Atki Borderer’s, AEC Mandator’s, and more latterly Leyland Marathon’s) began. Although John drove for Pandoro he was always ‘obblin’ for Hills Transport on the side. So for me every Saturday and most school holidays thru the 70’s were spent asleep slumped over the engine hump in a Hills aki borderer, gratefully grasping a handfull of copper coin which the drivers would always hand out whenever they saw me. Real happy childhood memories for me and it was great to see Johnny Long mentioned in South Wales trucking ‘lore’

I well remember Johnny Long - he had an A Series ERF - fleet number 120 as I recall, in the mid-late 70s… Or was it 121?

At that time, I was working on the traffic desk at Fleetwood

the fodens were bought second hand by brs bridgend in the late sixtys for a contract in the abbey works.

That’s a great photo of the Foden S21 Mickey Mouse tipper, I wonder if it was the same spec as this one my cousin ran, It was an export model, And it came from South Wales before he got it, Fine workhorses in their heydays, Regards Larry.
