Bewick:
Just for you Andrew and Martyn, last one to-night so no British, Scandinavian or French crap !!!
dennis thats a fine looking proper lorry cheers martyn.
Just looking at the shot Martyn, those Mercs we ran went over the water with 4 mtr.trailers and the one in the shot is a 4.2 UK fleet trailer which accounts for the low setting of the roof deflector!! Anyway I wish you well with your “new” project—keep you out the boozer over the winter “dai bach” !!! Cheers Dennis.
hi dennis,
is that a 1735 or a 1748? i didn’t think bewick ran any 48’s hang on,i just worked it out,that’s an 18 series merc.so a 38 or a 44.
regards andrew.
It was a 44 Andrew and we had a 380 for a time which I quite liked although there wasn’t a great deal of difference in the price IIRC.
pete 359:
one of the three 1735’s joint ran, identical to sammy dog’s. .everything brand new taken by me at baglan moors in august 1992.
Who manufactured the Coiler Andrew? Dennis.
hi dennis,
i think that one was an m+g?joint favoured both them and ahp’s,good trailers in their day.
regards andrew.
Suppose it had to be one or the other mate!!! Boalloy took M & G over in the early mid 90’s and while they kept building coilers they started to churn out chassis for the Tautliner and I switched to M & G at the time.I did visit the Lye plant on 2 or 3 occaisions and was made very welcome, they were decent lads! It worked out well at the time as Montracon had taken over TASK and completely ruined our Bewick spec which M &G quickly adapted to! I never had anything to do with AHP (Anthony H. Phillips) but a number of steel hauliers round Penrith ran them,my old pal Curly Cargill was a big user of AHP coilers!! Cheers Dennis.
Would have been looked after by Mudie Bond who were previously Evenlode Truck Centre based in Eynsham.

She was as she is now the only thing missing is an illuminated headboard and a couple of rotating beacons as far as I can see.I think the trailer came with it,had a rolling crane on.Was there a tall guy with a beard there when you went to see it (Pete)
That would be “Santa Claus” waiting to meet Martyn !!! Anon II.

Nice one Martyn. Looks as if the truck circuit bug has got you hooked! You are in very good company, as I am sure you are well aware.
As it happens I left Cardiff for the State’s 20 years ago today, people ask me what I miss about the U.K… I tell them the commaradery of fellow workers and friends, the road transport scene and the rugby of course. Its just not the same out here.
Just started a new contract with the Postal Service, out of town more, but when I get home and visit this site it makes me homesick lol. Just brilliant, what else can I say.
At Gulliver’s we ran a bunch of Merc’s 1628, 1635, 1733, 2035 and Iirc the G reg ones were 2435 eps. Not the fastest, but reliable workhorses in their day.
Good luck with the project, but don’t spend to much time in the garage, you may end up with a beard like Peter.
Andrew, and all. Looks as if Gaydon was some show, what a great turn out.

hi paul i would have liked to have emigrated but the missus wanted to come so i knocked that one on the head.
when i worked for joint motorways my last truck with them was e325 vep 1635 merc with eps cracking truck ,when i became owner driver i bought rth 543y off them 1633 merc with 16 speed zf onother cracking truck so to land up with the one ive just bought is like a dream come true. the retro show was brilliant had a really good time met so many of the steel boys what a great bunch of lads.
Hi Martyn looks like you have bought a good SK 1735 . Can’t wait till you get it painted . I think you said you would like the old joints colour scheme. I think it would look like in the new colour scheme like the one in Andrews picture . But eh doesn’t make no differrece and you are doing it up ! Are you going too use it only for the shows or are you going too put it too work. It will be nice too see some old Merc’s on the show scheme they have all gone !! It would be nice too know where they have all gone because there used too be loads of them . Any way can’t wait too see at the shows. Tony

hi tony andrew hopefully will have a big impact on this project so there ll be plenty of discussions going on before anything is decided .the merc will only be for the shows now as she s given sterling service to her former owner, would nt mind sticking her on the front of the bulker mind

Theres a classic commercial show at the Three Counties showground near Malvern on Saturday October 8th that some of the usual suspects are planning to take their trucks to. Link to website for info and entry forms here: http://www.classicshows.org/malvern081011.php
Let us know if you want to go, theres the possibility some of us will go up on the Friday to stay over, either on site or at nearby Upton on Severn.
Neil.
Hi Neil, I’ll be there with my two Volvo’s the scania is in Kent having some work done at the moment, Upton sounds like a good idea, ‘Proper Steelboys Outing’!!! Lee.

 batman and robin.usually when i go and look at a 20 year old motor,it has an odd tank and mirrors,or as happened with my f88 11 years ago,a string vest version of the cab ,this motor is a prince,i was amazed at the level of care and maintenance.she could go back to work,in fact she will be tomorrow morning .until this morning i must be the only truck anorak who had never seen this truck working.lots of guys on the show circuit had told me they saw it out and about over the years, from scotland to cornwall. http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac267/pete359_bucket/harry/Picture012.jpg[/img]]
hi all,
sammy dog,i bet your 1735 looked just like this g reg.when new.i clearly remember the bloody adventure of removing these factory stripes from joint’s new powerliner 2’s.it would take hours to remove them totally in readiness for the green and red stripes.the joint factory stripes were red, cause they always had white cab’s.your’s is factory blue,so i dare say the vinyls were silver?
