A typical load for them too, fair play to them for still running British trucks.

Sorry Neil missed your reply,I haven’t been by their yard for about five years so I didn’t know what they were hauling these days.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Now this is a motor I’d gladly resurrect the old class one to have a go in, what I consider the best motor available at the time drove them in day cab and sleeper cab versions and loved them a proper “mans motor” they make modern stuff look like “boys toys”.
thanks harry long retired.

regards andrew.

Neil.

hi neil,
i bet you are too young to remember seeing these  dmd construction building the ely link 1987.

I can remember seeing DMD stuff about, but not Thornycroft mighty Antars. What did DMD stand for? [not Dig More Dirt I expect]
Neil.

Hi Neil I’m sure it was DaviesMiddletonDavies and when they were extending the concrete roadfrom culverhouse cross to bessemer road they teamed up with Cartwright.
ian

hello all.
yanto 36 is correct with dmd, they were a very big and important civil engineering company that had its headquarters in the early days on caerphilly road cardiff, also i stand to be corrected that they were a partner with cardiff plant ltd,the thornycrofts were purchased for the construction of the ely link road suspended sections and thereafter the cogan spur road, when the cogan spur was opened a test was conducted by south glamorgan county council/ welsh office regarding deflection of the bridge,a thornycroft was ballasted and driven onto the bridge and the technical data was collected and examined then the loadwas removed and further readings were analysed, the last i saw of the thornys was at rover way and had been vandalised.
dmd was the contractor that built the flyover that crosses newport road to the top of rover way A4232.
regards graham.

two of j&m’s drivers who took me on many journey’s over 30 years ago.alun griffiths and bob pearce, seen here in calais in the mid-70’s.

hi all,
we all had a great night at alun griffiths’ birthday party last night.to me it seems incredible that alun, after a lifetime of working in the transport industry has decided to retire.though after all those miles, who could possibly blame him.alun, thanks mate for all the places you took me as a truck mad kid during the 1970’s.those happy memories will stay with me forever :sunglasses: .you and susan have both worked very hard and as was seen last night, all your friends and family wish you both all the very best for the future.
regards andrew.

Andrew, Scammell FBO 993V was new in 1980 to Wynns heavy haulage. Not merely a Crusader but an Amazon 100 ton unit.
Where/when did you see that?
Neil.
