Some 'proper' dafs

One or two from Perfects of Gt.Yarmouth. I spent most of my life there and they would buy new or second-hand. For many years they ran a mixed fleet, AECs, Leylands, ERFs, Dodges, Fords, Seddons , Volvos and several Fodens. Then around 1976 some second-hand DAF 2200s came home. In under 5 years, as far as I can remember, the whole fleet consisted of DAFS so they must have liked them. Regards to all, Haddy.

Just a few DAF’s we’ve had over the years.

Hullo,
Is that your good self posing in front of that Motor ? or is it a bloke called Suitcase, that used to drive for them ?
Cheers, Archie.

No its not me, its my Dad who was indeed called suitcase (one suitcase for clothes and another for food). All Crouch trucks had the drivers name painted on the front so my dads had John J on his.

Hull Jarvy,
Well, well. How is the Old Man doing these days ? Very well I hope. Give him my best reagrds please. I can remember you going with him, the last time that I saw him in fact you were with him then, and he had started on Norbert Dogstranglers.
Cheers, Archie.

He lives on the Isle of Sheppey, and he is now 80 and like all folks that age he has his problems. After Crouch finished ( early 80’s I think) he worked for Lumsdens till he retired. I start driving in 84 and in 1990 became an OD(only for 2 years) pulling for Dentressangle Calais. We did look alike until I put on a bit of wieght (don’t we all). I also went across the water for Dockspeed,BET and lastly Eclipse Recovery.
Now I am in Manhattan but that another story.

Hullo Jarvy,
Thanks for that, I’m pleased to know that he’s still around. 80 eh?, Bloody hell where does the time go ? I’m 73 now. That last time that I saw you both was in a Detressangle Motor, I guess then that it must have been yours then, and you were returning compliments for the times he took you away, by taking the Old Man out for a run. I think I was on one of my last runs abroad at that time (1990). Anyway please pass on my best regards when you next talk to him, All the best.
p.s There is a photo of a couple of my DAF’s a bit further back on this thread, maybe you will recognise them.
Cheers, Archie

The only time he came with me as opposed to the other way round was in the late 80’s when I was driving a red high cabbed foden. We did a trip to the Bordeux area collecting wine. I will see him at Xmas so I will show him your truck.

Cheers Malc.

Re; P.Crouch - anyone know what Yap-Yap son-of- Alf is up to these days? Last time I saw him he was on for Roba.

This 1983 reg 3300 was built for the Turkish market, but was sold to the UK instead.
I cant remember who the origional owner was, it could have been Mondials of london. It was later owned and operated by Alan Johnson of Braintree, who added quite a few mods such as: Cow catcher, two six hundred litre diesel tanks and a pair of large boxes behind the cab with the batteries in between. He also had fitted heavy duty front springs which raised the front by nearly a foot. He used this truck for quite a few years running to the Middle East and then to Russia .
I bought it from Alan in early 94 and subbed for him doing Kepstowe’s work to Russia for a couple of years before buying a space cab 95 which was on air and made the job a bit easier. I later sold this 3300 to a turk who exported it to turkey.

The Daf I did most of my Euro work was with EOJ 868V, here’s a photo of it’s Sister 867 before it was painted, when Richard Ford had them new. Do you know who had yours from new Mrken.

Classic looking set up, nice one.

Crikey it must have had a few miles on it even before it went to Turkey. And not just yours but many of the others pictured on this thread all sound like tehy went round the block a couple of times. Wonder if the new generation of trucks will be on the road as long?
