I well remember the last time I saw Sprowy.
We met in the “National” in Belgrade.I was on my way back from Saudi for Expo Freight and Sprowy was on his way back from Romania with a fridge on.
With his usual big smile,he said,“Tell thee what Taylor,I’ve had a good trip, and Ron Carman is going to buy thee dinner tonate,he doesn’t know about it,but never mind”.Never seen him again since then,Rest in Peace Arthur.
Phil Cox,great bloke, still as loud as ever I suppose.
Is Eddie Bailey still there?Someone else I got on with very well.I think it was Eddie who took my Transcon to Germany to break it in before i went to Doha with it.
Eddie Bailey is long gone think he lives down dover way now . Mr cox is to old to change even a heart attack never altered him. theres not many of the old hand left there now Ronnie was a generous man he just didn’t know it most of the time

Hi Ian
Bet you won’t remember me.
My dad was Arthur Sproston.
Just wanted to say thanks for the nice words you said - brings back lots of memories from my younger days.
Can you remember the Volvo F88 he drove - BLG 425K -the one with the Black paint instead of the more normal Carmans Blue
and the Orange Van Hool tank he pulled - Tri Axle in the early 70’s. Everyone hated it as no one could reverse it as it had a self steering axle !!
I have a confession to make - I thought you were Phil Cox on the photo I saw recently on TopRun of you standing in front of the Transcon. I know Phil did Middle East with one just like yours
Hope you do write that book - great memories should be kept alive for us youngsters !!!
Steve Sproston.
i.am dutch hope my english is understandable a small story to complete the quote i am answering to .
Adrie’s uncle was called uncle Arend and worked together with DAF research dept .
not only to design cabs and parts but he was very clever to design and invent all sorts of other things’.
such as better suspencion chassis parts more bhp from the same engine.
a great man with an enormous amount of patience for a driver that was good to his truck and if you came up with ideas or complaints he was always willing to look into it and solve it.
the driver that didnot respect truck or equipment had a big problem with hin.
i never did have problems with him he just costed me alot of time off.
which was fun also and taught me a lot about daf and how they work.

He used to come in to the canteen every morning for coffie but didint speak much english and my Dutch isnt to good so i neather got to ask him .
Also theres big changes in high management taking place there soon ,looks like things are passing to the next genaration of the family.

Love the original Space Cab, without doubt one of the top three truck cabs ever made.
BULLIT WAT A FANASTIC LOOKING MACHINE PROPER SUPERTRUCK WISH I HAD QNE
Got to agree these are proper Dafs…
I know these are mainly roadtrains, but ! the Daf 3300, is the 1st daf i drove, had it for a week when regular driver was off, when mine was off the road . Absolutely loved it and when drove it after that it was a dream. Took it on my 1st euro trip to paris in the early 90s, cause my roadtrain couldn’t pull the new 45’ trailers for Pinnacle International. Great days !
