read the plates on the lampposts, it may say no parking, it may no unloading
The solid white line on the kerbside (nearside), is the edge of the carraigeway, if you go over it, you are technically off the road, but it would still depend on other issues such as double white lines in the centre of the road etc. If there is room, it is not endangering other road users and there are no offical parking or stopping restrictions such as a clearway, then it should be ok.
The rules are, one yellow blinky light for parking on single yellow line. Two yellow blinky lights for parking on double yellow lines. I think white side lights are good enough for white lines.
its just i stopped on some today on the a629 into halifax ogden for those who know and a women rang the company saying i was parked right outside her house as well as been illegally parked as it was a solid white line and if i didnt move she was going to call the police! by the way i had a field to my left n a field to my right nearest house was hundred yards behind truck
The Highway Code describes the single white line as an edge marking, no rules, no regulations apply.
In the same way Motorways use red studs, it marks the nearside edge of the carriageway.
It only means keep clear if it is in front of a dropped kerb or entrance.
depending where on that road you were, there is part of it that has central hatched white lines( by the turning for Ogden water), I would guess that it is an offence to park adjacent to theses hatchings.
AFAIK white lines themselves have nothing to do with parking restrictions
Correct Del. Once had somebody trying to tell me I couldn’t park as the single white line along the n/s of the road designated a clearway.
You can park opposite cross hatchings if their border line is broken, not if solid.
Though there may well be good reason why the hatching is there that would otherwise dictate it might not be sensible to park there.
The one that catches a lot of people out is they think they can park in a double white line system when the line nearest them is broken. Wrong!
Always this option.

Always this option.
Parking inside a double yellow line is still illegal, plus you may get a bill for parking on the pavement from the utility companies for damaging pipes and cables
