Solicitor considering HGV

Hi eveyone

Im newbie on here and looking to hear from former professionals who have moved on to HGV driving and their thoughts.

As a change of career from field sales, went to university in my early 40s and gained a law degree. After putting up with paralegal wages for a few years, I finally qualified as a solicitor 3 years ago going into conveyacing (not what I really wanted but was the only way of getting a training contract with a firm). However clients and agents constantly emailing and calling for updates and getting annoyed if you dont respond within day. I dont regret qualifying as can always come back but now thinking of doing HGV as so sick of constant emails and calls. Money very similar and yes, with time will earn more as solicitor but that means double the workload.

My question therefore, was it worth making the change?

IMHO…don’t do it.

I would stick with being a solicitor if you want to sit at a comfy desk and make lots of money. I say that having experienced how much solicitors want to charge me and my other half to make what could be simple mirror wills!

@martin that could be countered with, I want to be a truck driver going by how much XYZ transport want to charge me to take a pallet from A to B.

Have you seen this thread?

This is on 2 threads- can they be merged?

no money in conveyancing unless you want to do all hours under the sun and being dictated to by estate agents if they send you any work. Pretty much as race to the bottom on fees and clients want an amazon service,ie all done in a day

sorry a newbie and not sure quite what i was doing on the threads

It’s ok- most of us don’t really know what we are doing (see Carryfast’s posts :joy:)
The mods will no doubt merge your 2 posts.

thanks mate

made me chuckle…good point

trust me on the wills, Not my area but colleagues are constantly sorting out wills that were bought of do it yourself supermarket shelves. Worth the money in the long run

Do many ask for their money refunded?

they are just of the shelf packs, seen them in Tesco’s…of all places

If you have a c1 licence already (passed your test before 1997) go do a saturday shift in a 7.5 tonne vehicle and see if you like it. If you havent do van work. That way if you decide you like it you already have a foot in the door
