So....

Goldilox stayed at her boyfriends and woke up to a “right hammering”…

lol, should have proof read that and noticed any potential double entendres!

Provided Goldilox is a lady and not a homosexual, I would not be surprised at needing over 8 hours sleep, as most women I’ve shared nocturnal habits with, need a hell of a lot of sleep. My wife needs nearer to 10 hours and she doesn’t even work. Don’t get me started on her mother, fat lazy ■■■■ needs 18-20 hrs a day :imp:

so what you saying ? that gays don’t need as much sleep as women ■■?

I wouldn’t know how much sleep a gay person needs, Goldilox said they stayed with their boyfriend. I was assuming they were a woman and not a man

Rhythm Thief:
A 13.5 hour shift is automatically a reduced rest, since the shift and break have to happen within a 24 hour period. So …

You start work at 0500 and work through to 1900. That’s 14 hours. Then you have until 0700 off. That doesn’t count as an 11 off (even though you’ve been off for 12 straight hours), because the clock resets itself at 0500, ie 24 hours after the start of your duty. You’ve actually had 10 hours off, therefore that counts as one of your reduced daily rest days.

Some of us actually have an excellent knowledge of Tachograph law and know what we are doing !!!

Oh, absolutely. But it’s fair to say that some - only some! - transport managers, er, don’t.

Provided Goldilox is a lady and not a homosexual…? so do you think gays need more sleep than a lady which you put in your post ■■?

Few things firstly its my choice to max my hours or not seeing as i get paid for 48 hours even if I do 22 like last week, secondly I had been up all night for the last 3 night with my son who is ill and a baby who needs feeding so if I dont want to have nine hours off weather im tired or not its my choice right?

The point I was trying to get across is why should I be made to feel bad because I dont want 9hours off when 1, dont need to! 2, shouldn’t be made to. 3, my choice!

Im ok on driving regs and such thanks!

As im back working for co op there was 5 spare drivers to cover my run so im sure they didnt mind putting someone in my slot, I work 60 hour weeks every other week and work my rest days when I can to earn extra coin because its about the money at the moment!

Untill finding a company that ill be working away for or whatever its about the money not building relationships with some management that dont know there arm from their ■■■■■■■, one of them told me its against the law for me not to use my holiday!!

Thank you all for your replys to my rant I will remember not to post anything anymore incase its wrong.

Just to add if I was tramping then I would rather have 9 off then sit in a layby for 11 hours.

Not sure why I feel I need to justify myself but this posts ■■■■■■ me off

Missing the main issue - which do you put first - safety or job ? = choose

Not missing anything. If he felt unsafe reducing he should have parked up on 13 hours. I fail to see how a 9 would make you feel unsafe. Just my opinion of course

If I get back to the depot, I’ve got to empty all my gear out of the truck as it’ll be used and the next day I’ll be in another truck.

Now, I can do a 14.5 - 15hr day and get back to the yard, empty my gear out and drive home, not a chance I’d have less than 10hrs off, I’m not 1 for insisting on 11hrs off, but considering travel time then 10 is not unreasonable.
I can’t sleep in the truck in the yard as it’d be going out on another job, so have to go home.

Now, if they need the truck back, do I say “I’m going to park up on 13hrs!!” or just drive back and have 10hrs off.

I do more nights out than nights at home and am happy to have 9hrs off in the truck, but that’s because I roll out of bed into the drivers seat, not the same as emptying wagon, driving home, ‘looking after the missus’, having some tea, sleep, drive back to work, put stuff in next wagon (unless it’s specifically a day run)…

I’m not confusing it at all. It’s like this. 13 hour shift, 9 off, not a reasonable request. 13-15 hour shift, 9 off, a reasonable request. The driver comes across as a Dr Do little friday afternoon cinderella. Any lorry driver who feels unsafe to have 9 off is in tge wrong job. Either stick to agency or skips etc where short shifts are the norm, or get out of the industry.

Read above, I’ve done all types of jobs involving all hours and will not, and never have had 9hrs off at home if I’ve had to drive home.

Although I agree with the highlighted bit, he does sound like ‘it doesn’t suit me, so I ain’t doing it…’

Don’t forget though Ovlov, not everyone spends most of their ‘working day’ asleep

Are you deliberately twisting what I wrote or do you not understand it. Once again, read this nice and slowly, 3 or 4 times then think about your reply. Goldilox said they stayed with their boyfriend. I was trying to ascertain if the poster was male or female. Hence the are you female or gay comment. I do not and have no desire to know the sleeping patterns of homosexual men. However, I’ve noticed countless women down the years that need at least 8 hrs. Whilst myself and most other male drivers I’ve parked with over the years seem to get by on 5-7

Neither do I Wayne. I’m not a box jockey anymore

We all know what this job entails so my view is if asked to have a short break have one if you want to be awkward remember that an employer can soon find a way to get rid of someone who wants to be always causing a fuss. i like the genuine replys from the guys who realise that working with management is a 2 way thing .

… although the tone of your post - “always do what management says” - indicates that it’s very much a one way thing.

Seriously, I think that if the company want me to help them out by reducing my break occasionally, that’s fine. If it comes to being expected to do it twice a week, every week, then I might start refusing just to make a point. After all, it’s a two way thing.
