I work for Samworth Brothers and we always get the mickey took out of us for wearing ties
I always smile when I’m doing exactly 50 mph on a DC and one of you lads overtakes me. What makes me smile is the fact that Samworths have “Quality is a way of life” proudly emblazoned on their lorries yet they happily allow the drivers to continually break the law. Similarly you have the likes of A V Dawsons who wander round with “Setting the standards” on their wagons and do just the same.
Perhaps my idea of quality and standards differ from others…
Ditto stobart and their inability to do 40 on single carriageway.
Nowt to do with the company or the trucks, that’ll be the drivers, who would still speed in any other company’s trucks, you just wouldn’t notice a plain white unit with a rented trailer speeding, or be able to ‘stereotype’ them all, bet you’re racist too, because you can spot the difference there
Currently on agency for Stobart, truck is a piece of junk basic crappy Scumia or Volvo, planners seem friendly on the phone but have a habit of not getting things right straight away - pick up a load that’s been collected 12hrs ago etc.
Some of the staff are up their own arse knob heads, particularly a little muppet who decided to have a go at me because my hi vis coat has grease stains on it, I do a lot of trailer swaps and a lot of close couple work for a lot of other firms that aren’t Stobarts and pay for my own gear, so if it’s warm, dry and ticks the boxes, it gets wore for work.
Job is no easier or harder than anywhere else I’ve worked, most of the trailers are looked after and curtains open easily and bars slide easily, but not all, and a lot of the trailers are so basic that they only ratchet at the front, not bad for 1 hitters, but ■■■■■ for multi-drop.
I’ve worked for a LOT of firms, both agency and full time, and I can say that on the whole, they’re just another truck company.
Couldn’t give a ■■■■ what name is on the top of the wage slip, as long as I get 1 and the figures are right
