If you really want to work for S&K I’m with Simon, get your forms in. If you’re not too sure that you really want the job, I’d wait & give it some more thought.

Ross.

Ok now you have all start whats it like

Didn’t go back need more money atm, I would go back if money wernt a issue, not as bad as everyone says but money ain’t the best

I never understand when people say “Money was’nt enough” , surely you knew that before you started , the reputation that s&k appear to have on the trucknet is pretty self explanatory. If you were after a job and a way back into euro work what better place to start , they seem to have plenty , and when back on the circuit i always find you hear more about what’s available when actually doing a job than by asking on a forum , but if you want to earn big money then i think asda/tesco etc are the place you should be looking :unamused:

I bet S&K get ■■■■■■ off with people wasting their time. I’m sure the wage gets explained at interview. Or do people get bitten by the “I wanna do Europe” thing and realise that it’s not all that?

so give us a clue… how bad are the wages?
where did you get to in your week
what were they like to work for

I don’t work there but I think you’ll find the average take home is £450-470 ish.

One thing I struggle with is why should drivers on Euro work get paid more than UK only drivers? This seems to be the sticking point of many would be International drivers, “I wouldn’t do ‘the Continent’ for less than” £,etc but what in International work makes it worth more than any other driving job?

Ross.

These days more than any time in the past, experience is paramount. Most of us can drive ‘on the wrong side’ ,and have muddled through various obstacles whilst learning. You can’t do that anymore as you know.A good driver does not necessarily make a good continental driver these days.Skill, experience and knowledge are all people have to sell,so get the best price you can

I was sat on the ferry with an s&k driver who seemed quite sensible. His words were - uk drivers get £450 per week. Long haul get a salary plus bonus which he says works out around 380 a week take home and every 3rd week or so they get their expenses which will give them around £750 which by my reckoning gives an average of around 500 but as he says when you go home you get less obviously so average £470 ish.

But the Euro job is easier now than it’s ever been, when I started on a Spanish trip I’d have (as well as all the normal insurance, V5 etc) Carnet De Passage, French Permit & Spanish permit & all had to have the correct stamps on entering & leaving each country. Now it wasn’t rocket science but it wasn’t easy and a missing stamp exiting France into Spain could mean either problems getting back into France or renewing the permit at the IRFO.

Which ever way you look at it, the job is a ‘piece of ■■■■’ these days in comparison, so why more money!!

I did UK for the week and took 470 away which considering I didn’t get in a truck till midday on the first day and only did 2 and half hours sat morn I was happy with, maxed card mon- fri, I spoke to one of there drivers who gave me the impression he parked up after 12 hours so I don’t wonder why some get less than others, I was happy with the job, and truck I drove it wernt the bollocxz but was a 06 plate it had no fridge but was clean and did the job, and the staff was helpful and polite, they don’t run bent and everything is well maintained, some of the conditions in the contract which was explained to me which I’m not going to go into but I was unsure about signing up to them, but like I’ve said I need abit more than a wage atm and that’s the main reason I didn’t go back but given the opportunity in a few months if my finances where looking better I’d gladly take the job

Dont forget the 10 Franc coin between the pages of the Carnet de Passage at La Jonquara for the nice Customs Man !!

Haha, yes, how could I forget. It was the same at Cherbourg with the customs bloke in the little cabin who stamped the paperwork, just to ‘oil the wheels’!!
