Snow socks for trucks

does anyone have snow socks are they any good or are chains better.

The school buses in Colorado use them instead of chains now, they get some serious weather in the Rockies and they perform better than chains supposedly

Never seen one on a lorry, but thenagain, I never see lorries with chains either, I’m parked up near a bar or resturaunt when them things are necessary :sunglasses:

we used to have them,i would rather have chains though, and one of our blokes got pulled in Norway, when the coppers had finished laughing at the snow sock, they fined him and he had to get some chains before he carried on

Think you’re better off just fitting winter tyres on your truck rather than messing about with chains in this country to be honest. Don’t know anyone that does socks for a truck.

The easy fit Thule ones look cool for your car though.

Anyone remember seeing the automatic snow chains, used to see them fitted on Swiss trucks worked by a air operated spinner that would continually throw short lengths of chain under the tyres as you moved, looked like a good idea saved on frozen fingers.

seen a few trucks in norway with some kind of grit dispenser, chucks grit under drive axles good for about 3kms,or so they say, just by pushing a button in the cab

Seen a few trucks with the auto chains, both here and in Swiss/Austria. Anyone remember those (mainly) Swiss trucks that had a ring fitted inside the wheel rims that had hooks on so that you only had to put a small length of chain across the tyre on each hook rather than throwing a full set of chains over the tyre

It isn’t an air operated spinner exactly.
Those type of chains are on a spinner, but the whole thing is mounted on a hinge with an air operated brake chamber type ram. When you press the switch to drop them down, a wheel contacts on your tyre which spins the chains to match your road speed.

Here’s a link to one brand Spinning Snow Chains

I have snow curtains.

Me too mate. If things get bad enough to need chains, draw those curtains instead :sunglasses:

Not a lot of good on your kepstow days !
But I agree with the sentiment !

Not sure about for the truck, but I have a set of snow socks for my car. I was dubious, but they actually worked quite well last year.
