Smoking in your truck

BIGRIG:
I dont smoke and when i have to use someone elses truck who does smoke it stinks :frowning: It should be banned

Yes, I agree. The whole cabin will be impregnated. I myself stopped smoke 5 years back and after that I think the smell is bad.
I stopped smoking because I want to live longer and to avoid lung cancer. :exclamation:

I made a customer walk about half a mile because they wouldn’t put their ■■■ out. To our firms’ credit, they banned smoking in cabs before the ban but did it in stages;
First, you couldn’t smoke in a non smokers lorry but could in spares.
Then banned in spares.
Finally banned in all vehicles.
I used to hate fagnolia as a choice of interior colour…

the best boss i ever had was pat o’kane. he didn’t drink, and didn’t smoke.
but the lorry he gave you was your lorry, and that’s the way we liked it. if you used another drivers lorry, and he was a none smoker, then you didn’t smoke in it. it was his lorry.

A member here has a letter stating as he is the sole user of the vehicle the smoking ban does not apply… if you search you can probably find the original post.

Dear Mr Michael Moss,

I am writing with regard to a letter received by my employer, (removed)
Transport about the Health Act 2006, following a complaint from a witness
that I was smoking in the vehicle (registration number removed), an articulated lorry tractor
unit. Your reference is ENF-SMF-08-0054

My employer has passed on the letter for me to deal with.

I am the driver of the vehicle. This is not a pool vehicle which returns to
base every night, it is an allocated vehicle and is to all intents and
purposes my home, having beds, refrigerator, cooker, TV etc. I generally
live in it for five to six days a week. Last week, for example, I went to Spain in it.

Nobody else ever drives this vehicle, or ever has driven this vehicle. I am
the only person who ever uses it. We are obliged by law to retain for 12
months tachograph charts recording the activities of the vehicle and any
driver and you are welcome to inspect these by mutual arrangement to confirm this.
Additionally, no passenger ever travels in the vehicle.

This vehicle is therefore exempt from the Health Act 2006, as it is not used
by more than one person and I would be grateful if you would point this out
to your complainant and any future complainant.

Should you have any questions, please don’t hestitate to ask, preferably by
email although I have supplied my contact details below.

Yours Sincerely,

Harry Monk,
The Park Bench,
Turnham Green,
Peckham.

Dear Mr Harry Monk,

I would like to begin by thanking you for your response to my letter dated 2nd October 2008, regarding a complaint about smoking within a potential smoke-free vehicle. From the information that you have provided, I agree with you, that the vehicle that you drive is exempt under the Health Act 2006 and that the letter can be disregarded.

I apologise for any inconvenience that my letter may have caused,
I am afraid that it is a standard letter and is used in all cases, even when further information is required. I have kept your comments on file, so that should a similar complaint be received, the complaint can be properly notified and no further action shall be taken against the company.

Thank you once again for your cooperation.
With regards

Michael Moss (Enforcement Officer)

All you namby pamby so called drivers would never have started your driving career in the 60s. where i wonder would your whingeing have stopped. No heater, not taking that out, ( night heaters had not been invented ) mirrors broken or missing, not taking that out, grease inside ( that was the norm ) ■■■ ash everywhere, floors were used to clean the smokers pipe, not taking that out, someones rolled up the sheets inside out, not taking that out, someones nicked some of the ropes, not taking that out, bashed me shins on the wheel trim, cant drive today, feet slipping on the metal pedals, cant take that out, gear stick rattles, cant take that out, looks like the inside hasnt been cleaned for weeks, cant take that out..etc..etc...a truck is a work horse, its a tool to make money, get a life and stop fussing.. I was given a truck on friday, must admit it was very clean, frilly curtains ( which i felt like ripping down ) lovely fancy blue m.a.n. seat covers, felt like greasing them up, and a little made up sign saying if you like a clean truck to drive, keep this clean`…so that got thrown across to the passenger side, no one can tell me to clean a truck, if you wanna clean it…then do it…i will however pick up any paper i drop, and throw it out of the window, but as for baby wipes for the steering wheel, gear lever, etc, etc…what a load of nonsence, and i will smoke in any truck i drive, because i want to. at the end of the day i am a driver, not a cleaner, but thanks anyway.

I agree with a lot you say Truckyboy but regarding fash ash and the 60s, how many of these chain smoking greasy spoon loving drivers are still alive?

Don’t really see the relevance of that muckaway.
ALL workers in the '60’s ate a similar diet and the vast majority smoked as well.

Non-smokers are inconsiderate people who do not pay their fair share of taxes and insist on living until they are 95 and being an enormous drain on those who have to pay their pensions for the last 30 years of their unproductive coffin-dodging lives, as well as having to pay for their dementia care and incontinence (more money is spent by the NHS on the last six months of your life than on the rest of it put together) whereas smokers pay high taxes and have the decency to die aged 67 after a short illness.

Like it says on the packets…

Actually, Jeremy Clarkson is a smoker and has regularly written over the years about how boring and ■■■■ non-smokers are.

Hi,

As per AA website on the new laws, you can smoke if you are Sole driver in England and wales, in Scotland it is banned altogether.

The Highway Code does not make it a specific offence to smoke while driving, any more than it is currently an offence to change a cassette, read a map or eat.

What offence are drivers being charged with by Angus Nairn and his mates who drive around in solo units and filming drivers ■■

It just shows the anti-smokers brigade up for what they are when their actions have stopped the use of electronic cigarettes in planes. They know that there is no passive smoke from them, the small puff of ‘smoke’ you see is actually water vapour, but due to the constant whinging and the fact that they hate to see people enjoying themselves, many airlines have found it easier to ban them.
Now I have never heard of a plane having to divert and land because someone got violent after having a nicotine substitute, I have heard of many occasions where a plane has had to make an emergency landing because of a drunk so why do they still sell booze on planes?

50 years ago you didnt have vosa, 50 years go didnt have health and safety 50 years ago you didnt have O licence . the fact it is illegal to have no mirror and can go against the operator licence etc makes it a bit different, you was a driver in a different era … rules of driving have trained, jsut because you have been about years doesn’t mean us younger drivers couldn’t of done your work I am sure there is loads of roping and sheeting going on now … Cleaning a steering wheel is about hygenie of a person … I think the changes have been good for drivers, how many truckers do you see all bent over due to doing what you did in the 60’s 70’s 80’s …

Oh well that’s ok then…,I’ll just re-cap,… you think it’s acceptable to use somebody else’s motor, which you admit was clean, as long as you chuck all your litter out of the window :open_mouth: , while feeling the urge to rip the guy’s curtains down, and purposely grease up his seat covers, take offence because he had the cheek :unamused: to POLITELY request you to keep his cab clean and tidy, how unreasonable was he!!! What a ■■■■! :unamused: , and then go on to make his cab stink for days afterwards because" nobody is going to tell YOU not to smoke " :unamused: .and because you are superior because "YOU started in the 60s, :unamused: do you really think anybody on here gives a ■■■■ ffs!! …Still,It could be worse, you could have came across as a complete arrogant, inconsiderate, Ahole, so that was close! :unamused:
