Smoking in mobility cars!

Today I was at a main Ford dealer waiting for my car to be serviced and while I was there a salesman was showing a bloke around a new Ford Focus that was sat outside, they then came into the showroom and me having big ears and just being nosy I learned that the car was in fact on mobility - nowt wrong with that in my opinion but after the paperwork was signed and the keys handed over the bloke and his missus hopped into the nice new Focus and promptly proceeded to both light up before driving off, as this is only a lease car I am wondering if you should actually be taking more care of it than that, maybe some people just don’t give a [zb].

Thinking more about it, as a mobility car perhaps you shouldn’t be smoking for health reasons anyway?

Just my observations :unamused:

Sounds like they were fit enough to work,or did they literally hop in.

It isn’t mobility brados. Its motability a lease scheme for disabled people whether they drive or not to enable them to have a vehicle to enable them to get around.Like everything it gets abused.I have never used it myself as I prefer to buy my vehicles outright, but it does help a lot of genuine disabled people who haven’t the capital to get a vehicle.
As for smoking I think it should be banned from all vehicles.

Dave, I was not knocking the scheme or the people that use it, the way my bones are going I may well be a user myself before too long. It was the smoking aspect of it that annoyed me, I agree with you also that smoking should be banned from all vehicles - a nightmare to enforce but should still be banned.

For the record I am a non smoker as in never smoked - ever, not even at school behind the bike sheds with Georgina Hughes

No problem brados I hate cigarettes, can’t stand the smell of the things. Each to their own I suppose.I don’t think anyone should be smoking near a new car or in a showroom.Fair enough when they have bought or leased the car. With motability the cars are inspected when the lease period ends and any damage has to be put right or paid for.I would think that would apply to smoke stains etc.
Cheers Dave.

i use to work for a renault dealership and use to clean ex motablity cars and they were a state they just didnt give a ■■■■■■■ toss about the condition of them bits ripped off ■■■ ash food food wrappers dirty ■■■■■■■ shouldnt be allowed to have a disablity car if they smoke in it and should be charged if mistreated

I agree totally, it is the same as driving someone else’s wagon, just have a bit of respect.

The car is just leased for 3 years and is the keepers responsibility, they can smoke, eat, drink & have ■■■■■■■ just like you.

A friend of ours is a director of a large American company, she suffers from a very serious illness and spends a lot of time working from home. She has a Motability car paid for through her DLA. It does not prevent you from working.

It doesn’t make any difference whether the car goes back filthy, they go to auction and the buyer knows where they have come from, they make a good buy because they will always be low mileage 3 year old cars. (Max 20k per annum)

If someone wants to keep a spare leg or a used colostomy bag behind the seat what business is of yours?

Well I wouldn’t like to put my foot in it I suppose but may be needing the leg soon

i can appriicate what your saying but they are being given something to use and it wouldnt hurt to show some respect by returning it resaonable clean not looking like its been dragged throu a ■■■■■■■ landfill site

A friend of mine had a Vauxhall Astra on motability as she has MS.When the three years were coming to the end the Vauxhall motability dealer collected the car for inspection and all blemishes etc had to be rectified.

There is a £200 penalty at the end for anything but fair wear and tear. There is no reason for them to go back battered because the insurance cover is 100% and they are very easy to deal with. We watched a TNT driver reverse into the car, when we approached him, it was clear to see the paint on his lorry and the car yet he still argued about it.

One phone call saw the car collected, with a courtesy car dropped off, the car was repaired, valeted and returned within a week, no loss of excess or any rise in premiums.

I believe Motability work with swings and roundabouts, some cars will go back with less than 2000 miles on the clock after 3 years, some will be abused by myopic pensioners and wheelchairs

In my area if you see a bran new renault megane or focus, 3 door, it’s motability. Two of my neighbours have these. One a single mother/hairdresser who is on her second motability car which she gets from her uncle. The other a young chap who also gets his from a relative.

The scheme is very widely abused just like the welfare state. Couple of years a go a sinn fein mp was caught using one for commuting.

The disabled person does not need to be a driver atall. The car is for the disabled persons benefit.I remember a local drunk having one and all of the scum and drug users were driving it.

Insurance, servicing, tyres etc are all included in the lease. Its a good deal for a disabled person. If a car was easier for me than my vans I would go for it.The scheme does get abused, but then again show me anything that doesn’t regarding help for disabled people. The biggest rip off merchants are the firms that do the conversion work on disabled vehicles.

You can only have two named drivers, unless you pay extra for another name, the car cannot be insured for any driver and I had to go into the dealership to sign on as a second driver.

As for the hairdresser getting a car from her Uncle, he can buy the car at the end of the lease at a reduced rate and hand it over to his neice, or his neice can be his named driver and use the car as her own unless he needs to go somewhere. You have to remember that some disabled people maybe need a couple of days bed rest after a difficult trip to hospital.

To get DLA at the higher rate, you have to figuratively jump through hoops, the only other way to get a Motability car is to have a war pensioners mobility supplement.

There is a lot of negativity about this charity, but you go and try and get the Higher Mobility rate and then tell me it is easy :open_mouth:

Agreed, it’s a 38 page form on it’s own and decisions are taken by a panel, your GP and hospital specialist’s evidence can be and often is ignored or overruled. Plans are also afoot to replace the panel with a computer program that is similar to the system used in the USA and Australia. Quite often a lawyer has to be used to get these decisions overruled and the high cost of this if they lose puts disabled people off appealing in those countries.

I have a bloody evil woman live near me who has a motobility car, wheelchair ramp etc etc because she allegedly is disabled and needs a wheelchair to get about but can move around quite quickly when she thinks no-one is looking. The only time the wheelchair comes out is when she has to go for an assessment. Bloody disgrace she gets away with it.
