Smokeing in trucks

as a smoker myself it don’t bother me but if someone has had the unit over the weekend that smoke’s never bothers me providing there clean about it .

i went home friday night came back monday morning and had left all my gear in over the weekend , wasnt till parked up for night looked like someone had tipped a ash tray over my bedding  but tried to hide the fact been smoking in it by probaly using a full can of air freshner which is fair enough but when you suffer from the stuff it’s not nice sneezing all day.

if am in another drivers unit that dont smoke i always stop and stand outside and have a ■■■ as there a non smoker .

refusing to drive a truck because it’s been smoked in wont exactly do you any favours as one agency driver tried with the boss when getting in my unit , the gaffer knows we all smoke in them and aint worried providing we dont leave them a tip .

all about common decency if am honest

Was out with a mini bus, the punters asked can we smoke. I said its against the law and you know dam well. after some discussion the tip was agreed and they would leave no mess as they had ash trays.Well there was no mess but the bus still stinks.A smoker wont understand the point of view of a non smoker. If every one stopped smoking the taxes on other things would be raised to cover the short fall.

away in me truck 2 weeks at a time class it as me home in it more times than in my house but wouldnt let a stranger in me house and smoke and leave ■■■ ash onthe floor would u

Well, yes, but there is a fundamental difference in that you own your house whereas you don’t own the truck you drive.

To be perfectly honest, although I do fully understand your point, I can’t help feeling that you are being a little “precious”. How long does it take to flick some ■■■ ash out of the door?

I love to read all the smokers point of views. At the end of the day if you dont smoke, you dont like the smell of smoke in your truck and its bang out of order for someone who does, to do it in your truck. Oh and it is illegal.

I Love to read the Non smokers point of views on all this ZB, the reason that pubs, working mens clubs and MOST social Meeting places are struggling is because the NON SMOKERS!!! You go to any of the above places and you will find non smokers outside…WTF!!!
As for smoking in the truck, I drive mine 99% of the time, if a non smoker gets in it I always make sure it has been cleaned and a nice air freshner installed for the SCUM to hang around their neck…

I just can’t understand the thing about pubs at all. Surely a pub could be either a smoking or a non-smoking premises, and customers could be allowed to take their own decision as to whether or not to visit?

But the thing about non-smokers is that they would oppose this, even if they never ever set foot in a pub, because it is all about control freakery.

I doubt the smoking ban will continue past its five year experimental period though, we will have a Conservative government soon, and they are more closely allied with the breweries.

It would be nice to give the owners of all premises, vehicles etc the CHOICE to decide whether or not their premises etc should be non smoking or not…

Trucks could be designated as smoking or non smoking and if another driver is going to be asked to drive it then it should be made clear what the designation is so they have the choice to accept to drive it or not.

Most pubs have more than one room so I fail to see why they cannot have a smoking and a non smoking room

Eating places that only have one room should be non smoking IMO

I have to agree about pubs being either or, and can’t see why us non-smokers would oppose it. However if you think any subsequent government will change the situation, I think you are far too optimistic, there is more chance of increasing the maximum legal speed of trucks on A roads - and thats nil!!

Having not smoked for 30+ years, I have strong views, but find that the law as regards to smoking in trucks is a law that is totally un-enforceable, and on that basis alone, should be scrapped.

I don’t like a cab that smells of smoke, but also I can’t see as Rog suggest the possibility of there ever being a choice of smoking or non-smoking trucks. It would be nigh on impossible for operators to give that sort of choice.

Bye the way, one thing worse than the smell of stale smoke is the so called ‘air fresheners’ in cabs, that get up my nose far more!! Air fresheners don’t remove odours they merely anaesthetise your nostrils.

Maybe if our law-makers had a brain they would stop making laws that are impossible to police!

I know, why don’t they pass a law making burglary and mugging an offence which carries points on a licence, then they would have the interest to police that as well.

ps. Last night I stopped at the Kebab shop and had to pull up on the pavement opposite. Yea double yellows but a big wide road and I was half on the pavement so no drama, Mr Plod pulls up and starts whinging and tells me to move or I’ll get a ticket. The parking on the shop side was all taken, a load of Gupta taxis that have a office there, Polish reg cars at the polish shop all parking into the marked area of a pelican crossing with a LT registered 4X4 parked ON the crossing with the engine running and the driver in the shop. Mr Plod seemed a little miffed when I told him that I will be taking a photo of him nicking my van while all these others are ignored.
It seems that laws only apply the white, UK born people

i smoke roll ups , & drive with the widow down an inch , & the passing air acts as an extractor fan , so i supose , the smell is kept to a minimum , but then you’d be hard pushed to smell anything over damp dog , cow dung & a pair of socks i forgot to take home the other night , having said that we also have a driver who smokes ‘proper’ ciggarettes & his cab is overpowering , even me as a smoker finds it bad :frowning:

Well ,Clarky, what a pig ignorant comment. You have just proved why the public have such a ■■■■ attitude to truck drivers. no wonder they percieve drivers as dirty unwashed foul mouthed smelly ■■■■■■ just because someone disagrees with your opinion on smoking, and wants to look after thier health ,they are scum? In my opinion illeagle immigrants, rapists, drunk drivers etc are scum , not a non smoker. What you need to get your narrowminded , bigotted head round is ,ITS ILLEAGLE. Your employer is liable to a fine .local firms to us have been fined.Me, I couldnt give a ■■■■ if you smoke or not ,just never do it in one of my trucks.

can’t argue with that. happy christmas!!

i’ve read/skimmed over most of this thread. With great amusement. If we look back over the o/p’s replies, he’s been an owner driver, a pub landlord and i bet he can drive a tractor (spelling not great) He’s put up with the pain and suffering of being his own boss, but he can’t stomach the fact that someone smoked in his 08 plate (not sure where thats relevent, maybe if it was an 07 it wouldn’t matter?) Maybe he should call the unions in because someone took a liberty in HIS employers vehicle? Get over yr self mate, move on. You’ve got a job, look after it.

We’re in the same trade mate so I know what you mean about the cow ■■■■! Some farms you go to have far worse smells than that, specially in the turkey season. Why do the worst ones always seem to put the bin right next to the slurry tank? :smiling_imp:

Agree with SmartMart about the air “fresheners”; by far the worst-smelling cab on our fleet belongs to a driver who smokes but has half of Poundland’s annual stock of cheap smellies in there to mask it. I once described it as smelling like a maiden aunt’s bathroom!

sorry mate carnt drive a tractor can do most things but not drive a tractor thing is dont need to get over meself dont need to look after me job cos start a new one next year funny thing is owner said to me he prefers non smokers due to nature of the business end of the day smoking is a discusting habit and its illegal to smoke in trucks so most of yas must be law breakers and got meself this job cos its goin bak abroad not because some one been smokein in the truck

I’m a heavy smoker, but I manage not to smoke in my allocated truck, despite being away all week. If someone like me who struggles with wagon steps can do it, I personally don’t see why anyone else can’t.

I stopped smoking in the wagon because I was forced to, but even if I was told tomorrow that the law and company policy had changed and it was ok again, I wouldn’t go back now. You don’t realise just how revolting it is to smoke in that small a space, even with a window open, until you stop.

I’ll get me coat now, shall I? :stuck_out_tongue: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Not me!!

All I ask is that someone who smokes, doesnt do it in my truck, respect me and I wont leave a tesco bag with my faeces in your truck. After all, as you say, you do get used to the smell after a few minutes.

One of our agency guys got sacked for smoking in the cab last year. A member of the public rang the number on the no smoking sticker in the windscreen :open_mouth: The TM asked him about it and he admitted it and thus lost his job.

So a member of the public took the time to call up which baffled me, but also all the driver had to say was no he didn’t - it amazed me :open_mouth:

I share with a non-smoker on nights which is good but if a holiday cover guy smokes in the cab in does my frigin nut in. Takes a right good bit of elbow grease to get rid of the smell

Remind me not to ask you to do my holiday relief!!!

I find it amazing that since the smoking ban came into force the amount of drivers complaining about the smells…and yet i guarantee these same drivers have in the past frequented pubs and restaurants where people smoked.
I suppose its easier for non smokers to notice smells smokers dont…but what i do complain about is when i`m off and an agency driver gets in my truck is…air lines never put back how i left them…middle axle always left down…pie & pastie crumbs everywhere…spilt coffee…sweet wrappers…sandwich wrappers left behind the seats…and not forgetting the delivery notes and diesel receipts left in the cab for me to put where they belong…which i always do…out the window…
