Carted some loads of Red Tarmac to the Heritage Centre from Tilcon’s plant at Pinvin Dave, give it my love when you see it! Harry and Dennis will know little about that side of the trucking job though.
Pete.
C’mon Pete,“H” and me were members of the Transport aristocracy (Royalty to you!!!) how many on the thread can say they worked on an 8 wheeler and trailer!!! And the driver I worked with was, IMHO, the greatest bloke to get behind the wheel of an 8 wheeler ever!!! No disrepect to “H”,of course!!! Cheers Dennis.

You were young and impressionable then Dennis.I expect we all had blokes who we thought were excellent drivers in their day,but those were different days with none of the red tape and crap that is around these days.
Cheers Dave.

Aye,alright Dave, but the driver I’m talking about was/is in a different leaugue to to-days “steering wheelers” and my opinion remained constant throughout the almost 30 years I was an employer!! cheers Dennis.

Cheers Dave.

No Dave,he didn’t,he left Brady’s and started at Bowater Scotts mill in Barrow, and was Yard foreman until he retired. But he always had an “open” job offer at Bewick Transport for many years because he would never want for a job as long as I was operating!!.Whenever I turned up at Bowies occaisionally to load a few trailers in the early 70’s I could be in and out with 3 trailers faster than anyone else could be in and out with 1!!! Guess who roped the N/S and who do you think roped the “drivers side” ■■ Cheers Dennis.

Sounds a proper lorry man Dennis, half of them just see it as a punishment, instead of getting on with it and taking a pride in what they do,and try and better themselves.
Cheers Dave.

I was thinking more along the lines of a “raucous” “drink up” Dave,(notice I said "drink up,can’t be too careful, some petty official may be looking in!!) in a quiet corner, not a formal "black tie " do in salubrious surroundings! anyhow “H” eats his peas with his knife so he would be barred right off!!! Cheers Dennis.

What on earth has this last page to do with Smith of Maddiston?
Lets get it back on track!!!
Are there any drivers that have used the Alloa depot of SoM?
Rgds,
David
Hi David,
It was me that kicked off al the nonsense on this page, after asking this.
Hi TMS,
Did you come across any of the Guy Big J’s with the 8LXB engines, when you were at SOM.
Cheers Dave.
Sorry that it went onto a lot of tangent’s.I was just trying to establish the Guy Big J 8LXB,but as usual it ended up in a lot of ■■■■ taking, never mind I have broad shoulders and can take it,as I give it as well.
Will let you chaps get back to your thread.
Cheers Dave.

Well as no-one seems able, or indeed, willing to come up with any definative proof as to the authenticity of a Guy Big J 8LXB,what do you expect the thread to turn into■■? it has to be a shambles hasn’t it!!!Anon.

Dennis,
Definative proof??..what better proof than the word of both drivers and mechanics who either drove or worked on the trucks,by your remarks, you are questioning the integrity of those men, which I personally find offensive.

Do I detect a slight glitsch in the “humour” department, pass me the screwdriver and I’ll adjust the “tickover” through the left lug 'ole!!! Oh dear I’m in the " doo doo" again!! Count me out of this thread as well then, soon there’ll only be “carryfast” that will allow me to post on his thread!! Why do you think I launched it,say no more!!! Bye bye,Dennis.
hiya,
Dennis you’re a star, there’s not a lot of humour left, bit of fun and and they try to shoot you down, give that screwdriver an extra turn for me i’m rubbish at DIY see you on the Carryfast site at least we’ll get a chuckle on there.
thanks harry long retired

Thanks for that kind coment “H” you are spot on there mate!!! Apart from the sometime “serious” technical discussions on the site anything else is “open season” for cracks and backhanded coments!!! And I believe, that the “phantom” Big J fits neatly into this latter catergory—well I ask you it has to do hasn’t it? by the way “H” do you get bothered with flocks of Pink Elephants flying low over your way? we do,it’s when they are migrating from’t IOM,they don’t half make a mess when they roost in the garden!! Cheers Dennis.
Trev_H:
Pink elephants, Are you looking through the bottom of a bottle when you see them Dennis ?
You can’t see any through the bottom of the first two or three Trev but by the time you get onto the 10th or 12th they become dead clear mate, sure they do!!! But by the 15th or 16th they go a bit blurred again and start getting closer!! Cheers Dennis.
