Very interesting photos Mr Dunbar, thank you for sharing them. I remember the company but I didn’t realise that it had such a variety of work, judging by the different types and sizes it operated. The obvious question then is, why did the company cease trading?
Sad to say, Family dispute, After Smiles finished in 75/76, The son that ran the long distance flat wagons Started his own clearance house, But that went ■■■■ up to, Of course they are all gone now, Regards Larry.

Lime Sand and Mortar was a fairly short-lived company IIRC.
Was L. S. M. taken over by Farnley’s Sand and Gravel ? Farnley’s had a big sand and gravel pit at Dock Acres near Carnforth which was in operation for many years through the 60’s and 70’s and IIRC their fleet colours used by their contract hauliers were similar to L S M 's. Might be a bit confused though but Farnley’s came from Otley or thereabouts. Cheers Dennis.

Well, Of course in the 70s, Tilcon had a Plant at Greenside which was the original LSM,Lot, My cousin Tom Smiles who did work out of this plant , Namley Burhills told me he bought an old car with the Reg LSM … & he passed it on to the owners of the LSM Lot, Of course he did a lot of work for them so it was a good gesture to say the , Of course this was in the 50s after denantionlisation of the haulage game, Regards Larry.
