Very interesting photos Mr Dunbar, thank you for sharing them. I remember the company but I didn’t realise that it had such a variety of work, judging by the different types and sizes it operated. The obvious question then is, why did the company cease trading?

This is him with two of his sons Fred & Earl, How things have changed over the years of haulage, Smiles IMO were way ahead of any north east haulier in those days, Regards Larry.

Aye thanks Dan, My Great uncle Bob was even smarter when he went out dressed, I was told that he was a real Ladies man in those days, He used to put it about a bit, His wife died a a very young age & there was no children, He then went on to enjoy like once again as us owld wagon drivers do Or hope to do

I thought it may have been Head Wrightson but it isn’t on further inspection.
