Morning all… didn’t seem like 5 minutes on here looking for advice etc and was booking my Hgv test. 5years in now and it’s gone so fast but just firstly wanted to thank this community for its help back then. Been a regular reader since but not much of a poster.
So my question today is, do any of you guys use smart watches? I just got a Fitbit versa 3
It’s counting loadsa extra steps like 12,000 over the course of a days work. (I’d be lucky to do 2000) and there for its counting lots more calories burned.
Turned gps off and put it in my bag and it was fine…
Anyone got a watch that doesn’t have this problem or one where there’s a setting to easily “pause” recording steps? It’s too much hassle taking it on and off all the time I do about 7/8 drops a day and have to reload for each, so I’m in and out 15-20 times a day.
I’m sure when I was moving slowly, manoeuvring etc mine was racking up steps then, when I witched gps off it slowed down. But done a test sat in the cab put park break on, turned wheel back an forth, fiddled on dash etc. And sure enough it went up.
Kinda decided I’m sending it back was just hoping someone on here had one with out these issues that I could get.
Fitness tracker watch from Argos a couple of years ago. I only wanted it for the heart rate function and nothing more. It insisted on Bluetoothing to everything and trying to comunicate with what ever it could find including the space station. I returned it and got my money back. I then found the cheapest no frills hear rate monitor on Ebay for a fiver. It was useless and it now resides on my treadmill gathering dust.
I now use the Samsung fitness app that was already on my S7. It accurately keeps track of my steps and records my heart rate through the camera lens. It records sleep, excercise and if you input your food, it works out and tells you whether you’re a tubby or not.
When they came out I couldn’t see the point of the Apple Watch but now after having one a couple of years I wouldn’t be without. Fitness stuff is great and tracking my activity has been essential over past 10 months in my return to fitness. Also very handy having so much instantly to hand. This is my screen, you can choose what you want on it. Apart from obvious bottom left is Shazam, press that and it’ll identify whatever music is playing, bottom right remote for iPhone camera. Rings in middle my activity for day. Also super handy if playing music (or video) on phone as remote controls automatically pop up on watch, perfect for skipping a track or such like when driving.

Thanks in advance for any help
Chances are if it’s saying you’re doing 12,000 steps you probably are. I do several thousand a day and I’m not working. Sounds like you have a very busy job too. 12,000 steps may not be as many as you think it is
Thanks for your input Luke. But I’ve taken a screen shot of steps as I’m setting off for a job, got to said job 12 mile ish (country roads and Aroads 50/50) recorded like 700 steps.

I’d estimate 2500 steps a at work for me at most.
It shouldn’t be recording steps as you drive. I suspected mine might be doing the same but after a 170 mile trunk run it didn’t show any extra.
My day consists of start of duty checks and securing load, checking trailer when doing a swap with a bit of general milling around chatting to other drivers whilst I waiting and end of duty shift stuff including de-strapping the load I’ve brought down and that’ll do 7000-8000 steps. When I’m on days doing store deliveries it’ll hit 10,000 even if I’m doing just a few.

Yes on Apple Watch at least there’s an option to do with driving, maybe same in this case. I.e it doesn’t record steps and distance when driving, well, moving, it can’t tell if you’re actually at wheel. Yet

It does register on mine when driving (drives my g/f crazy as I beat her step count week in week out). Quite often mid afternoon I’ll be two or three hours into a drive and I’ll feel my wrist vibrate and see myFitbit lit up and congratulating me on completing 10000 steps.
When I’m shunting I genuinely do between 17000 (on a quiet day) and 25000 steps. This number is also borne out by my I phone, so I have no reason to doubt its veracity in that case.
I did look into that but seen lots of people saying it was still racking up steps…
You say on the Apple Watch you can tell it that your driving and it won’t record steps? If that’s the case I was looking at an Apple Watch 3 (the 6 is a bit over budget)
