Small companies in canada recruiting

HI to all you truckers

I have been reading all the posts on working in Canada and you all seem to say that small co are best.
Just how do we find these companies. if you are in the uk and you google jobs you just get the big firms.
Does anybody know of a web site that has specific Small company names that we can approach for work in Canada.
How about you guys posting info on company names that are recruiting.

If someone has already done this then i apologise and just point me in the direction.
Thanks for any help

Small companies can’t afford to recruit overseas.
Why should a small company be any better or any worse?
Small companies don’t have a big customer base so you might get stucjk waiting for a load.
Small companies don’t always maintain their equipment as well as larger companies.
Small companies get picked on more often by DOT people because they don’t have the same reputation as bigger companies.
Small companies don’t have as much money so don’t provide the benefits that larger companies do.
Health insurance for outside Canada; you work in Canada you’ll have to go into the States. Who will pay your insurance coverage if you get in an accident or slip and fall off a trailer?
There is no government paid health coverage in the USA; and hospital costs can run into the thousands of dollars.

A large trucking company in Canada is a small sized trucking company in the USA.
Do a lot of research before you decide to pick up stakes and move to Canada.

try this agency:
It hires for QUIKX - Roadfast
www.keetransport.com
Single man rates 38 cents per mile
Team rates 25 cents per mile.

BJF :after reading your reply to the original post , I Had to respond. As an owner of a small canadian trucking company, I can only say that post has some major errors in it.
Small companies can recruit from overseas through our Trucking Associations. i have received more than one offer from them to see if we would be interested in joining the program.
Small companies are usually better to work for , you wont get lost in the herd. and you will probably work right along with the owners. This has got to be better than being a just a number in a big fleet. The size of your customer base really has no relevance to whether you will get stuck waiting for a load, it has to do with management policy about insuring that loads are in place and trip times are correct so that you can get your trucks and your drivers out and back in decent time. this means having both your outbound load and your return load arranged before the truck leaves the yard , not sending the truck out and hoping you can scrape up a load to get it back. I cant speak for other companies and their maintenence , but I can tell you that we cross the same scales and pass through the same roadside inspections and are subject to the same laws concerning trip insoections, truck and trailer inspections and safety audits as any of the big carriers.
Your statement that small companies get picked on because they dont have the same reputation as the large carriers has got to be a joke! We rarely get called in at scale or get pulled over by highway patrol, they are not going to waste their time with us when they can pull in a truck that they know is going to have problem, and I dont point at any segment of the industry, whether they are a large carrier or a small carrie. They know whos up to tricks and who isnt.
I cant say who has the most money to put towards their pay package, But i can say that we are all competing for the same available drivers and the market dictates what you have to pay and the benifits you have to include and who is going to waste their time offering less than industry standard and expect to get any takers. I dont operate in the USA so I cant comment on health insurance point except to say you that it would be poor company indeed if they didnt make sure that some kind of coverage was in place for their people.

Casey, all I can say is your reply is right on.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Now who do you suppose this guy works for.
Ask him how close Quikx came to losing their national safety code number in Ontario.

Why would you work for a drivers service that makes money off your sweat.
I know you can do better than this bunch.

Hey RuralRhodes…don’t drag me into your mess. I don’t work for the agency quoted; nor the carrier. I picked that ad at random from TruckNews as typical of those hiring and what the rates were.
Last I saw Sargeant Wooley was quoted as saying QuikX ran a safe operation.
Have a good day y’all.

Here is what the MTO actually has to say:
CVOR or RIN # Carrier Registered/Operating as Names Operator Type Safety Rating Order Public
Abstract(s)
102064356 QUIK X TRANSPORTATION INC. FOR HIRE SATISFACTORY

Now I don’t like to belabour point; but since you obviously don’t know what you are talking about…you can safely be ignored.

even the BIG COMPANY will let u sit at truck stops with out a load for 2-3 days not just us small ones and its we not afford to recruit overseas it just all the paper work and i seen BIG company with eqaiment that is far off then any small company and the d.o.t picks on the big companys more then little ones in the states they no the big companys will make the driver pay up for any fines
